In this role, you will be responsible for assembling electronic components, subassemblies and systems and testing electronic function of assemblies, components, subassemblies and systems using test equipment and procedures.\nResponsibilities:\nEssential Functions\nRead shop orders, follow production work instruction and sample assemblies, and receive verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed\nTrain other Garmin associates on task requirements and processes\nPosition and align parts in specified relationships to each other in jig, fixture or other holding device using hand or power tools and performance may include lifting up to 30 pounds\nTend machines or use hand tools and power tools to crimp, stake, bolt, rivet, weld, solder, cement, press fit or perform similar operation to secure parts in place which may include lifting up to 30 pounds and perform operator level preventive maintenance on machines, per Garmin requirements\nMount assembled components such as transformers, resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits and sockets on chassis, panel or printed circuit board\nConnect component lead wires to printed circuit or routes and connect wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals and contact points using soldering, welding, thermocompression or related bonding procedures\nInstall finished assemblies or subassemblies in cases and cabinets\nAssemble and attach functional and cosmetic hardware such as caps, clamps and knobs to assemblies using hand tools and power tools\nPerform intermediate assembly tasks such as potting, encapsulating, cleaning, coating, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping and color-coding parts and assemblies\nTend machines which press or shape component parts and perform operator level preventive maintenance on machines which may include lifting up to 30 pounds\nTend automatic assembly equipment which joins components/parts and perform operator level preventive maintenance on machines which may include lifting up to 30 pounds\nOperate standard test equipment and conduct functional, operational, environmental and life tests on product\nConnect unit to test instrument (such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, ammeter, resistance bridge or oscilloscope) and turn switch\nRead instrument dial or scope that indicates resistance, capacitance, continuity and wave pattern or defect such as short or current leakage and compare instrument reading with standard and reject defective units and perform operator level preventive maintenance on test equipment, per GMP requirements, and record type and quantity of defects\nNotify management of any conditions felt as being undesirable or nonconforming to product specification and any procedures that cannot be performed as documented\nCompliance with HRD-003 (Garmin’s Attendance Policy)\nCompliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements\nCleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards\nMaintain acceptable organization and cleanliness in work area\nIdentify and label Material Drops (for incoming material)\nClear all unnecessary items regularly\nIdentify all material properly\nMaintain orderly work center condition at end of shift (ex. totes covered, work bench lights off, etc.)\nQualifications:\nBasic Qualifications\nHigh School Diploma or GED\nDemonstrated verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills, to provide for respectful work-related communications with peers and associates from other departments (direct contact and use of electronic mail systems)\nMust possess a high degree of dexterity and eye coordination, to allow manipulation of buttons, switches, hand tools and knobs on delicate equipment, products and parts, in the performance of essential functions\nAssociates operating machinery must have a mechanical aptitude with an attention to detail\nMust possess the ability to bend, twist and lift up to 30 pounds while using safe lifting techniques, standing for an entire shift and walking long distances throughout the facility\nThis position will require the ability to sit, stand, look down, bend, twist and have dexterity with hands for up to 10 hours\nDesired Qualifications\n2+ years assembly experience\nSoldering skills (certificate desirable)\nPrevious experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing techniques to install Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and\nThrough-hole Technology (THT) components\nPrevious knowledge/use of IPC-610, Acceptance of Electronic\nAssemblies, workmanship standards\n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
