DescriptionLee County is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Scale House Attendant to join our Solid Waste Division at the Waste-to-Energy Facility.In this role, you will be the first point of contact for customers and drivers arriving at the facility. You will record vehicle weights, complete load screenings, monitor safety equipment, and help direct traffic flow through the scales. Your work ensures safe, accurate, and efficient operations every day.This position is ideal for someone who is organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys providing helpful customer service while handling detailed tasks.Duties and ResponsibilitiesWhat You Will DoOperate the computerized scale system and weigh vehicles entering and leaving the facilityRecord and maintain accurate tare weights and load informationGreet customers, answer questions, and guide them through the scale processPerform initial load screenings and monitor radiation detection equipmentDetermine charges based on load size and weight; collect and reconcile cash paymentsPrepare tickets, receipts, deposits, and daily cash reportsDirect vehicle traffic across three scales and a bypass lane to ensure safe flowOpen and close the scale house and perform routine inspectionsKeep scale house and surrounding area clean, organized, and safeAssist with creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Support Solid Waste staff by compiling records for regulatory or reporting needsPerform preventive checks on the scale and scale system and report issuesMaintain inventory of scale house suppliesPerform other related duties as assignedEducation, Experience, LicensingWhat We’re Looking ForAny combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GEDOne (1) year of fast-paced, professional customer service or similar experienceMust possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving recordStrong communication and customer-service skillsAbility to work independently and make sound decisions during daily operationsBasic computer skills, including Word, Outlook, and scale softwareComfort working around large vehicles and outdoor conditionsPreferred Skills And QualitiesExperience handling cash or performing reconciliationFamiliarity with waste industry operations or scale systemsAbility to stay organized, multitask, and maintain accuracy in a busy environmentPositive attitude and willingness to learn new proceduresSupplemental InformationWork ScheduleWork Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:15 AM – 6:15 PMRotating Saturdays, 5:45 AM – 12:15 PMWhy Join Us?As a Scale Operator, you help keep an essential public facility running safely and efficiently.
