Salary commensurate with experience*Overview:Location: Albany, NYSalary: $100,000 - $110,000We are seeking a Performance Engineer who will support our client in leading performance testing, monitoring, and observability efforts across enterprise applications and cloud environments. This role is responsible for defining performance requirements, designing and executing test strategies, analyzing system behavior, and identifying root causes of bottlenecks. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in using tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and AWS CloudWatch and experience with cross-functional collaboration to improve system reliability, scalability, and release readiness.Duties: Define performance requirements: translate business/SLA needs into measurable performance test requirementsPlan performance strategy: identify critical user journeys, peak-load scenarios, and success criteria; align with release milestones.Design & build load tests: create workload models, test scripts, and data (baseline, stress, spike, soak/endurance, capacity tests).Execute performance testing: run tests across environments, monitor behavior, validate results, and ensure test repeatability.Monitor & profile systems: analyze application, database, OS, network, and infrastructure metrics (CPU, memory, I/O, GC, thread pools, connection pools).Identify bottlenecks & root cause: correlate logs/traces/metrics to isolate constraints (code hotspots, slow queries, contention, misconfiguration, downstream latency).Optimize & tune: recommend and validate improvements (query/index tuning, caching, async processing, configuration tuning, right-sizing, autoscaling settings).Production performance support: help set up observability, performance guardrails, and alerts; assist with incident triage and post-incident analysis.Daily Status Reports, coordination with offshore teamReporting & communication: produce clear test reports and executive-ready summaries—what was tested, what failed, why, and what to do next.Collaborate cross-functionally: work with developers, SRE/operations, QA, architecture, and product to drive performance outcomes.Mandatory Qualifications:Associate’s degree or combination of education and experience2 – 5 years of experience conducting performance engineering2 – 5 years of experience working with Dynatrace2 – 5 years of experience as a SPLUNK Administrator or extensive work with SPLUNK for monitoring and analysis.2 – 5 years of experience in AWS Cloud, including AWS CloudWatch.Experience defining performance requirements based on business needs and service level expectations. Experience designing and executing multiple types of performance tests, including baseline, stress, spike, soak/endurance, and capacity testing.
