Traveling General Superintendent
Position SummaryThe General Superintendent supports the Sitework Division Manager in overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of sitework operations for heavy civil construction projects. This role assists with managing field operations, personnel, scheduling, equipment utilization, and project performance to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.The Sitework General Superintendent works closely with project managers, superintendents, estimators, and field crews to maintain efficient operations and deliver successful project outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist the Sitework Division Manager with day-to-day operations of the sitework division.Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to plan manpower, equipment, and materials for upcoming projects.Support scheduling and resource allocation across multiple projects to maximize productivity and efficiency.Monitor project performance, including productivity, costs, and schedule adherence.Assist with reviewing project budgets, production reports, and cost tracking.Work with estimating and preconstruction teams to provide operational input during bid preparation.Help manage equipment utilization and coordinate with the equipment department for repairs, maintenance, and mobilization.Participate in project planning meetings, progress meetings, and internal operations meetings.Ensure field operations comply with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.Support development and mentorship of superintendents, foremen, and field personnel.Assist in resolving field issues, conflicts, or operational challenges that arise during project execution.Promote quality workmanship and adherence to project specifications.Travel to and oversee operations at any location, including those outside of the Charleston, SC area, for extended periods of time, as neededQualifications7+ years of experience in heavy civil construction or sitework operations.3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role (superintendent, project manager, or operations role preferred).Strong understanding of sitework operations including earthwork, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Knowledge of construction scheduling, production tracking, and project budgeting.Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office.Valid driver’s license required.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.Experience managing large-scale site development or heavy civil projects.Familiarity with GPS machine control, survey layout, and modern sitework technology.Physical RequirementsWork involves sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time in various adverse weather conditionsMust be able to repeatedly lift and/or carry weights of five to fifty pounds. Must be able to wear personal PPE. (Hard hat, glasses, gloves, and vest).Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordinationCombination of office and active jobsite environmentsFrequent travel between projectsExposure to heavy equipment, outdoor elements, and construction conditions
