This role will focus on building secure, scalable, and high-performing server-side applications and APIs that support taxpayer-facing digital services. The developer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including front-end engineers, DevOps, cybersecurity, and IRS stakeholders, to design, develop, and maintain back-end solutions aligned with IRS cloud and security standards. This position is a remote position, with potential for periodic on-site presence in Washington, D.C., for key technical meetings, design sessions, or project milestones.\n\nEssential Duties & Responsibilities:\nLead the design and development of secure back-end services, RESTful APIs, and microservices that integrate with IRS digital platforms.\nImplement best practices for cloud-native applications in an AWS and Kubernetes-based environment, ensuring compliance with IRS Publication 4812, NIST 800-53, and FISMA requirements.\nTroubleshoot and resolve production issues, providing root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes.\nContribute to performance tuning, scalability testing, and capacity planning to meet IRS standards for availability and load performance.\nCollaborate with product owners, technical leads, and stakeholders to refine user stories and translate them into functional back-end features.\nSupport CI/CD processes using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and SonarQube, including automated testing and secure deployments.\nPerform unit testing, integration testing, and assist in developing automated test cases to ensure 90%+ code coverage for critical functionality.\n\nEducation, Certification & Experience Requirements:\nEducation Required:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.\n\nClearance Required:\nThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background investigation in accordance with IRS and Department of the Treasury personnel security policies.\nFavorable Tier 2 – Moderate Risk Public Trust (SF-85P) investigation.\nElevated Eligibility: Tier 4 – High Risk Public Trust (SF-85P) investigation, if duties involve elevated system privileges, access to sensitive IRS systems, or handling Federal Tax Information (FTI).\nStaff-Like Access: Contractor personnel must receive a favorable suitability determination before being granted staff-like access to IRS information systems.\nEmployment is contingent upon passing the required background investigation and maintaining eligibility throughout the period of performance.\n\nCertifications Required:\nCompTIA Sec+ (or equivalent baseline DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification) (Required).\nAWS Certified Developer – Associate (or equivalent cloud certification) (Required).\n\nExperience Required:\n7+ years of back-end development experience, including at least 3+ years in a senior or lead developer role.\nExperience working in Agile/Scrum environments delivering iterative releases.\nFamiliarity with IRS cloud environments, FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST 800-53 standards.\nExperience with tools such as Jenkins, Git, SonarQube, NexusIQ, Selenium, and AppDynamics.\n\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:\nExpertise in back-end programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Node.js, or Python) and API design for enterprise applications.\nStrong understanding of secure software development, including encryption, authentication/authorization, and compliance with federal cybersecurity standards.\nProficiency in designing and implementing RESTful APIs, microservices, and database schemas in a cloud-based environment.\nHands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Podman), Kubernetes, and AWS cloud services.\nAbility to architect scalable, maintainable back-end solutions aligned with enterprise security and compliance requirements.\nAbility to lead technical decision-making and collaborate effectively with cross-functional Agile teams.\n\nWhy Join Command Cyber Solutions:\nWe recognize that our success begins with our people.
