Plans, coordinates, assigns, and reviews the work of a group of Family Services Specialists, Senior Family Services Specialists, and Principal Family Services Specialists. Maintains an acceptable level of compliance with state and local policy. Ensures that unit and agency goals and objectives are met. Ensures that customers receive appropriate services to protect children and adults from abuse and neglect. Deals with difficult or dangerous cases.Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to other staff members. Promotes staff development. Identifies training needs and develops appropriate training programs to address needs. Trains and evaluates the unit in program policies and office procedures. Continuously monitors the effectiveness of service delivery. Trains new employees and evaluates their progress.Initiates and recommends personnel actions, including selection, evaluation, promotion, counseling,g and discipline, including dismissal. Approves annual and sick leave as appropriate. Acts as a resource to provide consultation to social workers and makes decisions on controversial cases or forwards them to more senior staff as needed. Works with subordinates to resolve customer concerns and issues.Maintains current knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Interprets current laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to other staff, community agencies, and the public. Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of social service programs. Recommends, develops, and implements policy changes in response to evaluations of program effectiveness and efficiency.Participates in community planning and development of new resources. Attends a variety of meetings and represents the agency on committees, task forces,s and focus groups. Makes presentations to the public as needed. Works with local and state personnel to achieve effective social service programs.Develops and maintains manual and computerized filing systems. Maintains records of actions and files appropriately. Compiles, evaluates, and analyzes program data and statistics. Uses statistics and/or other data to prepare periodic and as-needed reports.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field. A minimum of five (5) years of direct social service delivery experience which shall have included supervision of others. Extensive knowledge of social work principles, practices, and treatment; knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques; knowledge of human behavior; knowledge of social, economic, cultural and health issues within the community; ability to direct the work of others; ability to apply treatment and intervention approaches; ability to investigate and respond to customer concerns; ability to make decisions in difficult situations; ability to interact effectively with others; ability to investigate and respond to customer concerns; ability to identify problems and develop workable solutions for oneself and others on the basis of technical knowledge of methods, knowledge of policies, procedures, laws, and regulations; ability to prepare a variety of written correspondence an documents; ability to receive and convey information involving discussion or explanation of substantive matters. Requires a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to the City of Hampton's criteria. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. May require "on-call" status, during which time incumbent is required to respond at any time of day or night to emergencies. May require working non-standard hours including evenings and weekends.
