The Cloud Database Engineer will provision and manage relational and non-relational database services, ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness, optimize query and system performance, and enforce database security standards. They will work closely with application development, cloud engineering, and architecture teams to support Subway’s data infrastructure at scale.\n\nResponsibilities include but not limited to:\n\nProvision, configure, and manage cloud database services including Azure SQL Database.\nDesign and implement high-availability and disaster recovery configurations for all database platforms.\nMonitor database performance; identify and resolve bottlenecks through query tuning and index optimization.\nEnforce database security standards including encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, and audit logging.\nManage database backup, restoration, and point-in-time recovery procedures; conduct regular DR tests.\nCollaborate with application and architecture teams on schema design, capacity planning, and migrations.\nDevelop and maintain database runbooks, standards documentation, and change management procedures.\nEvaluate emerging cloud database technologies and provide recommendations for platform improvements.\nCoach Infrastructure colleagues on Active Directory and vulnerability remediation best practices.\nQualifications (some examples listed below):\n\n5+ years of database administration experience in an enterprise environment.\n8+ years of experience with Windows system administration.\n3+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server.\n3+ years of experience designing and testing HA/DR configurations for production database systems.\n3+ years using Terraform to provision and manage cloud database services.\nStrong hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database.\nExperience with database performance tuning, query optimization, and index design.\nProficiency with Terraform for provisioning and managing cloud database infrastructure (required).\nExperience applying AI/ML tools to database performance optimization, anomaly detection, or query analysis (required).\nBachelor’s degree in Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.\nPeople Management: No | Department: Tech for Technology | Reports To: Director, Cloud Engineering & Database | Location: USA | Scope: Global | Travel: Less than 10%.\nWhat do we offer?\n\nInsurance Plans (Medical, Life)\nPension/401K/RSP (country specific)\nCompetitive Bonus\nMobility Allowance\nTuition Reimbursement\nCompany Holidays\nVolunteering time\nAnd More……\nTransparency Language (US & Canada Only) – DO not post this line -reference only\n\nCompensation: The base pay range for this role is $XX annually\nPay within this range will be determined in good faith based on job-related factors, which may include skills, experience, education/training, location, and internal equity.\n\nThe Company is only considering applicants who are currently authorized to work in the country the position is based.
