Position Summary
The CNC Machinist specializes in the operation, preventative maintenance on horizontal CNC machines and is responsible for developing the technical code that drives complex, multi-axis manufacturing processes. This role requires specific expertise in 3/4-axis operations often associated with horizontal mill configurations.
Key Responsibilities
Operator: Operate key CNC equipment while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Program Development: Create, test, and optimize G-code and M-code programs using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks, or Edgecam) for 3, 4, and 5-axis vertical machining.
Process Engineering: Determine the most efficient manufacturing sequence, including tool selection, spindle speeds, and feed rates to maximize tool life and part finish.
Fixturing and Workholding: Design and develop custom fixture layouts and setups to secure workpieces during machining cycles.
Blueprints and GD&T: Interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure all components meet tight tolerances (often within ±.0005”).
Program Prove-Out: Perform dry runs and first-piece validations, making adjustments at the machine control (Fanuc, Siemens, etc.) as needed.
Quality Assurance: Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges.
Technical Support: Identify and resolve machining issues, and provide technical support to operators and team members during production.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Education: High school diploma or GED is the minimum; an Associate's degree in manufacturing technology or a related engineering field is highly preferred.
Experience: 2–5+ years of experience in CNC machining, with a focus on vertical milling
Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of CAM platforms (Mastercam, SolidWorks) and simulation software.
Mathematical Aptitude: Strong proficiency in shop math, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
Strong attention to detail and visual acuity for inspecting precision components
