As an Apprentice Meat Cutter, you will receive hands-on training and mentoring from certified meat cutters and department leaders. This role is designed to prepare you for certification as a Meat Cutter, with a structured program lasting up to one year. You will learn all aspects of meat department operations, including cutting, merchandising, safety, and sanitation. Key Responsibilities:Assist in daily cutting of fresh beef, pork, and grind under supervisionFollow production schedules to meet requirements for advertised fresh meat cutsWrap, stock, and organize fresh meat and poultryLearn and execute proper packaging, trim standards, yields, and Meijer specifications for pork and beef cutsOperate and clean meat department equipment (saw, wrapper, scales, cuber, grinder)Maintain department setup, opening, and closing dutiesComplete all required training modules and assessments within prescribed timelinesDemonstrate safe work habits and strict adherence to safety policies (including Meat Grind Procedure #52)Participate in department merchandising, inventory control, and product presentationAssist with checking in fresh meat deliveries and maintaining hold box organizationLearn knife sharpening skills and equipment safety proceduresWork scheduled shifts according to training and business needs, which may include first, second, or third shiftsMay be required to travel to other locations for training or coverage (travel time and mileage paid per policy)Training & Certification:Structured training program with periodic assessments (6 months and 1 year)Certification may occur at any point within the year upon demonstration of required skillsApprentices may not cut meat without a certified Meat Cutter or Team Leader present until certifiedApprentices are expected to model professional behavior and dependabilityQualifications:Familiarity with weights and measure processes specific to meat processingAbility to understand and follow specific safety and sanitation proceduresExperience in product presentation and packagingExperience using Computer Assisted Ordering applicationsExperience with inventory control procedures
