Relief Veterinarian – High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter

Friends of Feral Felines (FFF) is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Relief Veterinarian to support our high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) program serving community cats and underserved pets throughout the Charlotte area. This is a flexible, impactful opportunity for a veterinarian who is passionate about reducing pet overpopulation and improving cat welfare through efficient, high-quality surgical care. About Us Friends of Feral Felines is a volunteer run nonprofit dedicated to humane population control and advocacy for community cats through Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR). We work closely with volunteers, caregivers, and local partners to provide accessible spay/neuter services and improve the lives of free-roaming and owned cats alike. Key Responsibilities Perform 30-45 high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter surgeries on cats. Maintain efficient surgical flow while prioritizing patient safety and welfare. Work collaboratively with veterinary technicians, assistants, and volunteers. Ensure proper surgical protocols, anesthesia monitoring, and pain management. Support best practices in shelter medicine and population control.QualificationsDoctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and active, unrestricted veterinary license in North Carolina (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date).Demonstrated proficiency in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgery, including safe anesthesia management and pain control for feline patients is preferred. (Training is available.)Experience or strong interest in community cat medicine, shelter medicine, or TNVR programs, with a commitment to humane, evidence-based population management.Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment while maintaining high standards of patient care and aseptic technique.Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with veterinary technicians, support staff, volunteers, and community caregivers.Comfort with maintaining accurate medical records, following written protocols, and complying with state and federal regulations, including controlled substance management.Physical ability to safely handle cats in various behavioral states, including fractious or fearful animals, using low-stress handling techniques.Flexibility, reliability, and a mission-driven mindset, with willingness to support occasional schedule adjustments based on program needs.Schedule & Compensation Flexible, as-needed shifts.
