OverviewInfrastructure as Code (IaC) Automation Engineer (5001) (US, DC, Tampa, San Antonio) (Secret) at SMX. The SMX Space and Intelligence (S&I) Business Unit is on the ground floor across the future remote sensing ecosystem for all orbital regimes (LEO, MEO, HEO, and GEO). The ideal candidate is a recognized professional with hands-on expertise and an excellent understanding of engineering processes supporting large, National Defense, Agile software development programs.Work will be performed in Colorado. Please apply to this role if you have interest in relocating to Colorado.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions for IaaS environmentsAutomate provisioning and configuration of compute, storage, networking, and virtualization resourcesDevelop and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and modules for infrastructure automationSupport IaC workflows using tools such as Terraform or similarIntegrate IaC automation into CI/CD pipelines to enable versioned, tested infrastructure changesCollaborate with network, systems, platform, and security teams to translate infrastructure requirements into codeEnforce infrastructure standards, consistency, and best practices through automationSupport infrastructure lifecycle activities including builds, upgrades, patches, and decommissioningTroubleshoot and remediate automation failures and infrastructure driftDevelop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and automation standardsSupport security and compliance requirements in a regulated environmentParticipate in Agile planning, reviews, and retrospectivesPerform other duties as assignedRequired Skills & ExperienceSecret clearanceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)4+ years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering, automation, or DevOps rolesHands-on experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure as CodeStrong experience with automation tools such as AnsibleExperience working with Linux systemsExperience scripting in Bash, Python, or similar languagesDemonstrated ability to automate complex, multi-step infrastructure workflowsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsDetail-oriented and able to own work through completionAbility to work on-site at the customer locationDesired Skills & ExperienceExperience with Terraform or similar declarative IaC toolsExperience automating virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere)Experience automating network and storage infrastructureExperience with cloud or hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, GovCloud) Familiarity with configuration drift detection and remediationExperience integrating IaC with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins)Experience working in government or secure environmentsFamiliarity with Git-based workflows and infrastructure version controlExperience writing reusable, modular automation codeApplication Deadline: March 30, 2026CJPostLI-onsiteThe SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
