The position combines BESS sizing and system optimization with battery technology evaluation and the development of innovative engineering tools and processes.\n\nThe role\nAs a Senior BESS Engineer, you will serve as a technical specialist in utility-scale battery energy storage, supporting project-specific sizing decisions while evaluating existing and emerging storage technologies.\n\nYou will apply strong engineering fundamentals to optimize BESS solutions against technical, operational and commercial requirements while helping improve the tools and methodologies used throughout the engineering lifecycle.\n\nKey responsibilities include:\n\nProvide technical expertise for utility-scale BESS sizing, methodology, assumptions and optimization\n\nDevelop and optimize end-to-end BESS sizing from the point of interconnection through substations, transformers, PCS/inverters, DC systems and batteries\n\nAccount for system losses, battery degradation, augmentation and overbuild strategies, temperature effects and operating constraints\n\nIncorporate project-specific technical and contractual requirements into sizing calculations\n\nDevelop, maintain and continuously improve BESS sizing methodologies, calculators and technical guidance\n\nMaintain accurate records of sizing assumptions, inputs, technical decisions and results\n\nReview project-specific sizing results and identify optimization opportunities and technical risks\n\nMaintain BESS and PCS equipment data used within engineering sizing tools\n\nEvaluate existing and emerging battery and energy storage technologies\n\nAssess battery performance characteristics including degradation, efficiency, available energy, reliability, state of charge and state of health\n\nEvaluate emerging and alternative energy storage technologies for technical maturity, performance, safety, scalability and commercial viability\n\nDevelop preliminary system sizing and cost estimates to support technology evaluations\n\nAnalyze technical data and communicate findings and recommendations to engineering and project stakeholders\n\nDevelop and improve tools to automate BESS sizing, performance forecasting, technical evaluations and repetitive engineering workflows\n\nApply data analytics, programming, automation and AI-enabled approaches where they can improve engineering quality, consistency and efficiency\n\nCollaborate with technical and software teams to translate engineering methodologies into scalable digital tools\n\nWhat we're looking for\n\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related discipline\n\nStrong utility-scale BESS engineering experience\n\nDemonstrated knowledge of BESS sizing and system optimization\n\nUnderstanding of AC and DC sizing methodologies\n\nKnowledge of battery degradation, system losses, augmentation/overbuild strategies and thermal impacts\n\nUnderstanding of PCS/inverters and associated power electronics\n\nExperience assessing battery performance and energy storage technologies\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilities\n\nAbility to translate complex engineering requirements into practical technical solutions\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nAbility to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering and project teams\n\nStrong organizational and technical documentation skills\n\nDesirable experience\n\nAlternative or emerging battery chemistries and long-duration energy storage technologies\n\nFlow batteries, sodium-ion batteries, multi-day storage, supercapacitors or other alternative storage technologies\n\nIGBT or SiC inverter technology\n\nBattery and/or PCS technology evaluation\n\nEngineering automation and digital tool development\n\nPython, Excel/VBA, Power BI or similar analytical tools\n\nApplying AI or advanced data analytics to engineering applications\n\nBattery performance forecasting\n\nExperience engaging with battery or PCS manufacturers and technology providers\n\nSome travel to manufacturing facilities may be required to support
