This position supports a combination of physical servers, virtual machines, containerized applications, development platforms, networking, storage, and mission applications.\n\nThe ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong Linux fundamentals who is comfortable working across infrastructure, networking, virtualization, containers, and application support. The engineer will work closely with software developers, network engineers, cybersecurity teams, and mission partners to deploy new capabilities, troubleshoot complex problems, and maintain reliable and secure computing environments.\n\nJob Duties\n\nInstall, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot Linux servers and workstations.\n\nSupport enterprise Linux distributions including RHEL, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, or similar platforms.\n\nManage users, permissions, services, packages, repositories, filesystems, storage, SSH, certificates, and system resources.\n\nMonitor system health, capacity, availability, and performance.\n\nDiagnose hardware, operating system, storage, network, and application-level issues.\n\nVirtualization & Containers\n\nDeploy and manage Linux virtual machines within KVM, Proxmox, VMware, or similar virtualization environments.\n\nConfigure virtual networking, storage, templates, snapshots, and system resources.\n\nDeploy and support containerized applications using Docker, Podman, Docker Compose, or similar technologies.\n\nSupport Kubernetes, K3s, or other container orchestration platforms as required.\n\nAssist development teams with application deployment, runtime configuration, and troubleshooting.\n\nNetworking & Integration\n\nConfigure and troubleshoot TCP/IP networking, routing, DNS, VLANs, firewalls, proxies, and application connectivity.\n\nTroubleshoot HTTP/HTTPS, REST APIs, WebSockets, SSH/SFTP, and other application protocols.\n\nSupport reverse proxies, application proxies, and controlled ingress/egress architectures.\n\nWork with development and network teams to establish connectivity between applications, services, and external systems.\n\nSupport rapid integration of new applications and technologies into development, test, and operational environments.\n\nDevSecOps & Automation\n\nSupport Git-based development environments and CI/CD platforms such as GitLab, GitHub, or Bitbucket.\n\nDevelop scripts and automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies.\n\nAutomate common system administration, deployment, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance activities.\n\nSupport Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration-as-code practices.\n\nAssist engineering teams with application builds, deployments, dependencies, and infrastructure requirements.\n\nSecurity & Operations\n\nImplement system hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration-management requirements.\n\nSupport DISA STIG implementation and applicable DoD cybersecurity controls.\n\nAssist cybersecurity teams with RMF activities and technical evidence collection.\n\nConfigure and maintain logging, monitoring, backups, auditing, and system health capabilities.\n\nMaintain accurate system configurations, diagrams, procedures, and technical documentation.\n\nSupport integration events, system demonstrations, testing, exercises, and other mission activities.\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related discipline; equivalent technical experience may be considered.\n\n7-10+ years of Linux systems administration, systems engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or related experience.\n\nStrong Linux command-line administration and troubleshooting skills.\n\nExperience administering RHEL/Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, or comparable Linux systems.\n\nExperience with virtualization technologies such as KVM, Proxmox, VMware, or similar platforms.\n\nExperience deploying or supporting containerized applications.\n\nStrong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, routing, firewalls, and application connectivity.\n\nExperience with Git and scripting or automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies.\n\nUnderstanding of system security, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management.\n\nAbility to independently troubleshoot problems spanning operating systems, networks, applications, and infrastructure.\n\nStrong technical communication and documentation skills.\n\nNice to Have Qualifications\n\n[Enter Desired Skills/Qualifications]\n\nWorking at Edgesource\n\nAs an ISO 9001:2015 certified and CMMI Level 3 appraised small business, Edgesource specializes in providing a variety of technical solutions to include software development, database services, enterprise networking, data center virtualization, and management support.
