Ultimately, in determining your pay, we will consider your experience and other job-related factors.\nLocation: 100% on-site at our Ladera Ranch, CA headquarters.\nController Job Summary\nReporting to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), the Controller serves as the senior financial leader responsible for accounting operations and strategic financial analysis for the company. The Controller will direct the activities of the Accounting Managers and department operations, develops and implements internal controls and monitors the production of financial reports used for compliance, forecasting and cash flow.\nEssential Job Functions and Responsibilities\nSupervises the production and accuracy of financial documents, such as balance sheets and income statements.\nMonitors actual spending vs. budgetary allotments.\nReports positive and negative variances to key executives.\nOversees the preparation of federal, state and local tax returns and remains informed about tax laws.\nServes as the direct supervisor for the Accounting and Payroll Managers.\nEnsures full compliance with federal and state reporting requirements, such as Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing regulations for publicly traded companies.\nDevises and implements internal controls to reduce the risk of errors, omissions and fraud.\nManages organizational debt and participates in loan renegotiations.\nStays up to date on the financial markets and industry trends that impact the company’s finances.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned.\nQualifications Needed\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.\nBig Four and/or other public accounting background required.\nCPA certification is preferred.\nAt least 15 years of progressive accounting experience with 5+ years in senior controller or equivalent roles.\nReal Estate/REIT experience strongly preferred.\nIn-depth knowledge of accounting principles and standards, corporate taxation, internal controls and cash management.\nExceptional math and analytical skills\nExcellent communication skills, with the ability to discuss accounting concepts to all levels within the organization.\nAttentiveness to details.\nExcellent leadership skills.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.\nHigh level of integrity and professional ethics.\nBenefits\nCompetitive salary\nHealth insurance including medical, dental and vision\nLife and Disability Insurances\nPaid Time Off\nGenerous Holiday Schedule\nMonthly on-site car washes\n401(k) matching with no waiting period\nEmployee assistance program\nReferral program\nA great culture!\nDiversity\nSmartStop® Self Storage, is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
