The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.\r\nIn this hybrid role, you will report into a TLM of Planner Technology.\r\nResponsibilities\r\nWork with a creative team of people who are responsible for ensuring that the behavior of our cars is safe, smooth, and predictable to other road users, which includes gracefully handling many complex situations involving social aspects (merging, negotiating narrow roads, etc), while dealing with noisy, uncertain, and incomplete information.\r\nFrame the open-ended real-world problems into well-defined engineering problems; develop tools, algorithms and evaluation mechanisms; scale them to Google-sized data pipelines; and streamline them to run in real-time on the cars.\r\nQualifications\r\nBS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, ML, Robotics, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience\r\nGeneral software engineering experience programming in C++ with robust and efficient code\r\nAbility to collaborate within and across teams\r\nExperience integrating, evaluating or developing ML-based systems is a plus\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nGeneral software engineering experience with solving motion planning or related robotics problems\r\nCompensation and Benefits\r\nThe expected base salary range for this full-time position across U.S. locations is \\$170,000—\\$216,000 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
