This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both field and office work, thrives in a hands-on environment, and is excited to support important infrastructure projects across the county.\nPosition Overview\nThe Engineering Technician I performs a variety of technical engineering duties including computerized drafting, field surveying, construction inspection, materials testing, and data collection. Work is completed with independence and accuracy in accordance with IDOT standards, engineering best practices, and county policies.\nKey Responsibilities\nCreate computerized drafting and preliminary designs for maintenance and construction projects.\nResearch project documents, process survey data in CADD software, and produce cross-sections, plan/profile sheets, drainage plans, and cost estimates.\nServe as survey crew member or chief; operate survey equipment, record field notes, and assist with various surveying tasks.\nConduct inspections of county/township roads, subdivision streets, bridges, and contract construction work.\nOversee and coordinate contract paving projects; collect material samples and perform density and concrete tests.\nSupport GIS data creation and maintenance; assist engineers and project managers with various technical tasks.\nPerform related duties as assigned.\nWhat You Bring\nKnowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering-related software.\nSkill in surveying, drafting, and using technical equipment related to roadway and bridge construction.\nAbility to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications.\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, colleagues, and township officials.\nAbility to work outdoors in varying weather and on uneven terrain.\nPhysical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring balance, climbing, kneeling, standing, and walking.\nReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nMinimum Qualifications\nCompletion of one (1) year of Computer-Aided Drafting training OR a degree from a 2-year Construction or Engineering Technology program.\nValid Illinois Driver’s License.\nWork Environment\nThis role includes both office and field work. Fieldwork may involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, fumes, rough terrain, and occasional interactions with upset residents.
