OBAYASHI - JAY DEE, JV is seeking an experienced welder to provide essential support for our tunnel project in Manchester, NH. This position reports to the Foreman and plays a key role in maintaining site safety and efficiency. This is an hourly, nonexempt position. Start pay at $51/hour DOE.ResponsibilitiesUtilize welding techniques to fabricate components, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.Operate and maintain a range of welding tools, cutting torches, hand tools, and other equipment.Maintain and repair heavy construction machinery (excavators, loaders, backhoes, etc.) in the shop or in the field.Employ basic math skills for measurements and calculations necessary for precise fabrication.Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols.Work Environment and ConditionsWork is performed in above-ground and underground environments, including confined spaces, with exposure to varying weather conditions and temperaturesThe role requires performing physically demanding tasks with repetitive movement and manual dexterityThe work environment may include noise, moisture, and debrisAbility to remain focused and respond effectively in stressful situationsOptional opportunity to work in pressurized (hyperbaric) environments up to 36 psiRegular collaboration with engineering, operations, and safety teamsWork shift: Day shift onlyQualificationsSafety Orientation: A strong commitment to safety protocols and the ability to comply with all federal and state safety regulations (OSHA 10 certification is required).Experience: 5+ years in welding and applicable certifications.Mechanical Aptitude: Familiarity with operating and maintaining a range of welding tools and equipment.Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and safety guidelines.Proficiency in operating various welding equipment and tools. Knowledge of manual and mechanical welding techniques, different welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick).Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a team, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities are essential.Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.Preferred SkillsExperience with tunnel-specific equipment (TBM, locomotives, slurry systems).Familiarity with underground construction practices.Physical requirementsAbility to lift at least 40 lbs. unassisted, and the capacity to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces. Tunnel work also demands high stamina for activities like climbing, balancing, and handling materials, often for extended hours and in challenging conditions.Manual Dexterity: May need to use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble small objects.Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
