TEACHER ASSISTANT (PT, Lower School 26-27 School Year)

Position: Teacher Assistant Reports to: Head of Lower SchoolDivision: Lower School FLSA Status: Salary, Non-ExemptEmployed: Part Time (7:30 AM - 12:30 PM), 10 mths, onsite Direct Reports: NoneJob SummaryAn assistant teacher provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher and students in the teaching-learning process. The work is performed under the supervision of the teacher and/or principal.Key ResponsibilitiesCarries out the mission, vision, and values established by the Head of School and the Board of Directors by enforcing the policies and rules governing students.Assists the teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans.Gathers resources and supplementary materials.Supervises students in the classroom and other locations. For example, during fire drills, field trips, in the cafeteria or in the library, and while moving from one location to another on the campus.Encourages safety habits in work and play.Monitors work assigned by the teacher and keeps students on task.Keeps the classroom neat and orderly and provides an environment that encourages learning.Maintains confidentiality of records and information.Teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.Reconciles minor student conflicts.Assists in keeping records up to date, such as emergency forms, lesson plans, individual child development profiles, attendance, and other records.Assists in maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly logs and reports.Attends parent-teacher conferences if requested by the teacher.Attends staff meetings.Supports and implements short and long-term goals in the classroom.Other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or principal.Key QualificationsEducation: College degree preferred, high school or equivalent requiredAdditional Skills/Abilities: Experience in providing care and instruction of children.Physical RequirementsObserve, see, hear, and be able to respond quickly to children's needs, emergencies, and conflicts that may occur.Ability to lift 30 pounds, crouch down to the level of a student, and occasionally sit on the floor.Awareness of the cognitive, social, and physical needs of children.Ability to speak in a professional manner as well as the ability to listen.Monday through Friday, scheduled during peak need.
