About the RoleBJAK is seeking a Remote Backend Developer to build the core systems powering its AI Neobank application.This role is focused on developing reliable backend services, APIs, workflows, and financial product infrastructure capable of supporting customers, partners, and operations at scale.The ideal candidate has strong production backend engineering experience and understands APIs, databases, authentication, authorization, queues, jobs, events, integrations, reliability, security, observability, and data integrity.This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys owning systems end-to-end, working with rapidly evolving product requirements, and balancing speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability.Candidates must already be based in the United States.3. Key ResponsibilitiesBuild backend services and APIs supporting onboarding, accounts, payments, cards, transfers, rewards, travel, foreign exchange (FX), KYC, and risk workflows.Design reliable backend systems capable of supporting real customer transactions and operational workflows at scale.Develop financial product infrastructure that can expand across markets, partners, and future product offerings.Integrate backend systems with internal platforms, financial partners, payment providers, AI services, and third-party systems.Build and maintain secure, reliable APIs and backend services.Own backend quality across reliability, security, latency, observability, data integrity, and incident handling.Work closely with Product, Frontend, Mobile, and AI teams to deliver new features quickly and safely.Debug complex production issues and improve system reliability.Simplify existing workflows, eliminate unnecessary manual processes, and automate repeatable operations.Make practical engineering trade-offs between development speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability.Contribute to the architecture and continuous improvement of BJAK's backend and financial technology infrastructure.4. Required QualificationsStrong professional experience building and maintaining production backend systems.Solid understanding of:APIs and backend servicesDatabasesAuthentication and authorizationQueues and background jobsEvents and event-driven workflowsSystem integrationsExperience building services used by real customers or internal operations at meaningful scale.Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.Strong understanding of reliability, security, monitoring, and data quality.Ability to work with fast-changing product requirements.Ability to make sound technical trade-offs involving speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability.Strong English communication skills.Must be currently based in the United States.5. Preferred QualificationsExperience in fintech, payments, banking, digital wallets, KYC, fraud prevention, or risk management.Experience working with financial transactions and payment infrastructure.Experience building scalable backend systems for large customer bases.Experience integrating with financial institutions, payment providers, or third-party platforms.Experience with AI-powered financial products or services.Demonstrated ownership of significant production systems or platforms.Experience working in fast-moving, globally distributed engineering teams.6.
