Job Summary: This position is critical to ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet of vehicles and light agricultural equipment used in our landscaping operations. The Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of automotive vehicles, including diesel trucks and trailers, as well as light equipment such as tractors, skid-steer loaders and other utility vehicles. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both automotive and equipment repair, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work independently. Responsibilities: Vehicle Maintenance and Repair: Diagnose and perform complex repairs on a variety of vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and company vehicles used in landscaping operations. Light Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, diagnose, and repair light equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid-steer loaders, utility vehicles, and other machinery essential to landscaping work. Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all vehicles and equipment to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of assets. Troubleshooting: Identify mechanical and electrical issues in both vehicles and equipment, using diagnostic tools and technical manuals. Parts Management: Order, manage, and maintain an inventory of parts and supplies necessary for vehicle and equipment repairs. Safety Compliance: Ensure that all repairs and maintenance tasks are performed in accordance with safety standards and regulations. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and costs incurred. Supervision: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics, assisting them with complex tasks and ensuring quality workmanship. Emergency Repairs: Respond to emergency repair needs in the field, ensuring minimal disruption to landscaping operations. Customer Interaction: Occasionally interact with team members or clients to explain repairs and maintenance needs, providing expert advice as required. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent; formal training in automotive or equipment repair is preferred. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive repair, with additional experience in light equipment repair. Skills: Advanced knowledge of automotive systems, light equipment, diagnostic tools, and repair techniques. Leadership: Proven ability to lead and train junior mechanics, with strong organizational and time-management skills. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on accurate diagnostics and efficient repairs. Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and effectively. Physical Ability: Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects and working in various positions. License: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus. Certifications: ASE certification or equivalent in automotive repair is preferred.
