WhatsApp is looking for an experienced Communications Manager to join our small and agile team. This is someone who is passionate about private communications and the future of technology, including helping people to learn how to use AI to be creative and productive on WhatsApp. It’s also someone who’s creative and curious about the changing media environment and social conversations around how people connect with friends and family across the globe, and can bring a proven track record of launching consumer and privacy products on a global scale through the press, social influencers and opinion-makers. We are looking for someone who has carried out high-profile campaigns and brings established relationships with media and influencers in the U.S., but also has a very global mindset. The ideal candidate is the type of person who oozes creativity and regularly thinks outside the box, and has experience handling crises and translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible consumer stories. WhatsApp's user base is broad and global, and we want to find ways to connect with them all, no matter where they are. In addition, this person should have an interest and understanding of how issues like privacy and security impact the lives of our users around the world. This is a hands-on role with significant day-to-day responsibilities working with leaders across WhatsApp.Communications Manager, WhatsApp Responsibilities:Devise and lead launches and proactive media and social/influencer campaigns for WhatsApp consumer and privacy products and initiatives through press, influencers, opinion-makersRepresent the Communications team in a wide range of internal, high-impact discussions including with cross-functional partners in engineering, product, policy, legal, and other groups within the companyCounsel cross-functional partners in engineering, product, policy, legal, and other groups within the company on communications considerations for product updatesBuild and maintain meaningful relationships with your key audiences – press, influencers and opinion-makersManage in-bound press inquiries on a range of time-sensitive issues with high stakes and visibilityPrepare and train spokespeople as well as represent WhatsApp to the mediaCreate and consistently land the story of WhatsApp and the benefits that our privacy and utility features bring to users around the worldDevelop and create a wide range of communications materials including blog posts, social media outreach and responses, communications plans, statements, briefing materials for executives and moreSimplify complex ideas or technical issues and make them understandable and relatable to a wide range of audiences globallySupport reactive and crisis communications to quickly drive a cross-functional team when neededManage multiple PR agencies to support communications effortsMinimum Qualifications:8+ years of experience in communicationsExperience with communications and persuading different audiences across different channelsExperience developing media campaigns for targeted audiencesExperience with global product launches and consulting with product managersExperience working cross-functionally with marketing, policy, legal, and other communications teamsExperience managing crises communications and developing communications strategiesExperience creating messaging materials, and working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Public Policy, Marketing, and ResearchExperience working in technology and using WhatsAppPreferred Qualifications:Experience developing global communications campaignsProven track record of successful experimentation with influencer/social-first campaigns and launchesExperience working with a creative and public relations agency or communications consultantsExperience working on product launches outside the U.SExperience creating product narratives aligned to societal moments around the globeDemonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologiesAbout Meta:Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
