Initially, under closer supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties related to recreational and human services programs and activities and may reasonably expect to have the position allocated to the Afterschool Site Leader level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency which meets the qualifications for the higher level class.\nSupervision Received/ Exercised General supervision is provided by a Recreation/Human Services Leader III or higher level recreation program personnel. An Afterschool Site Leader may provide functional and technical supervision to subordinate recreation leaders or volunteers.\nWork Schedule These positions work various schedules and at various locations throughout the city of Oxnard and Port Hueneme. These positions may be required to be available to work additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs. These positions are not governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and are eligible for overtime pay.\nResponsibilities Provides direct program support for specific recreation and human services activities.\nProvides direct supervision of up to 20 students in grade levels 1‑8 in recreation and human services programs or day camps; dispenses equipment; maintains equipment and facilities.\nResponds to questions and concerns from the public and program participants; provides information as appropriate and resolves concerns.\nThey are to uphold the essential standards and grant requirements as noted by our partnership with local school districts.\nProvides homework assistance ensuring that it is completed neatly and correctly.\nProvide structured recreational and enrichment activities.\nProvides opportunities for participants to increase their English language fluency and proficiency.\nImplement content area lessons and classroom management strategies taught during professional development trainings.\nAttend assigned Professional Development Trainings during summer and throughout the school year.\nPerforms other related duties as necessary.\nQualifications Education: A high school diploma/GED and pass a para‑educator examination through the Oxnard School District or Hueneme Elementary School District. Or completion of a minimum of 48 college credits.\nExperience: Be at least 18 years of age or older.\nLicensing/Certifications: Some positions may require a valid class C California driver’s license.\nOther Requirements: Valid First Aid/Critical Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate within six months of appointment; Mandated Reporter Training Certificate within six months of appointment; provide current Tuberculosis (TB) test results prior to first day of employment; must be able to communicate in English effectively both orally and in writing.\nDesirable: Two (2) years of voluntary or paid youth program experience.\nBenefits These positions are entry level and do not provide benefits beyond those required by state or federal law.
