Senior to Principal Geotechnical EngineerMissoula, MontanaFull-Time | RegularSalary: $125,000 – $175,000 (based on experience)Travel: Up to 50%Position OverviewExpress Employment Professionals is helping recruit for a Senior to Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support and grow geotechnical operations in Montana and the broader western United States. This leadership role involves managing projects, mentoring staff, and contributing to business development while delivering high-quality geotechnical engineering services.You’ll work on diverse and technically challenging projects across Montana and the Rocky Mountain region, including infrastructure, environmental hazards, mining, and oil and gas.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage geotechnical projects through all phases, from investigation to design and constructionProvide technical leadership to support growth of the geotechnical practice in MontanaConduct geotechnical analyses and prepare engineering reportsPerform field investigations, quality control inspection, and construction oversightDesign solutions for:Soil and rock slope stabilityFoundations (shallow and deep)Transportation infrastructure (bridges, highways)Geologic hazards and mitigationWaste containment systemsHDD design and pavement systemsSupport and expand client relationships and regional business developmentCollaborate with senior leadership to improve technical and business outcomesEnsure compliance with company health and safety standardsQualificationsExperience: 10–20+ years in geotechnical engineeringStrong track record of project delivery and client satisfactionExperience in:Civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineeringHydrology/hydraulics, mining, or geohazard projects (preferred)Proficiency in:Geotechnical design analysis and softwareMicrosoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)Experience preparing engineering plans and specificationsFamiliarity with geotechnical lab and construction materials testingExcellent written and verbal communication skillsComfortable working directly with clientsEducationBachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical/Materials emphasis)ORGeological Engineering or related fieldCertifications & LicensesProfessional Engineer (PE) license required (Montana or ability to obtain)PG license (preferred)HAZWOPER and MSHA certifications (preferred)Work Schedule & ConditionsSchedule: 40 hours per week (day shift)Travel: Up to 50% (primarily within Montana and Rocky Mountain region)Must be able to:Lift moderate loadsWalk/hike in mountainous terrainWork outdoors in all weather conditionsOccasionally work extended hoursAdditional InformationRelocation assistance availableDriving required (more than once per week)Accessible via public transportation
