This role is responsible for relational and non-relational database systems, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability across multiple technologies including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.\n\nThe ideal candidate combines strong operational database administration experience with database development, performance tuning, and cross-team collaboration skills.\n\nResponsibilities include:\nInstall, configure, patch, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies.\nManage and maintain enterprise database environments across on-premises and cloud platforms (including Azure).\nAdminister Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL databases.\nDevelop, deploy, and maintain SSIS packages and support SSRS where applicable.\nMonitor database performance and implement tuning and optimization strategies.\nDesign and develop database solutions to support business applications, OLTP systems, OLAP systems, and data warehouse environments.\nSupport Kafka-based data streaming and integration workflows.\nImplement and maintain database security, including user/role management and integration with Active Directory.\nPerform database maintenance, backups, recovery planning, and restore operations in coordination with the Network Operations Center.\nConduct database capacity planning and ensure high availability.\nAnalyze and review database components of vendor software packages.\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex database issues (Tier 2 / Tier 3 support).\nParticipate in 24/7 on-call support as needed.\nProvide consultation and deployment support for Technology Design and Development teams.\nCreate and maintain database documentation, standards, and best practices.\nEducation and Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).\n3+ years of experience in Database Administration.\nAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2012 – current versions).\nProven experience with SSIS package development and deployment.\nStrong database tuning and performance optimization skills.\nExperience administering MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.\nFamiliarity with Kafka for data streaming and integration.\nExperience with backup/recovery strategies and high-availability configurations.\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nExcellent organizational and planning skills.\nPreferred\nMCITP (Database Administrator) or similar certification(s).\nExperience designing and maintaining data warehouses, OLTP, and OLAP systems.\nExperience with Azure cloud database technologies.\nExperience supporting enterprise-level, multi-instance environments.\nSkills and Abilities:\nProactive with a strong work ethic\nHigh attention to detail\nStrong collaboration mindset\nAbility to manage multiple priorities\nCommitment to data integrity and security best practices\nBenefits available to you:\nFull insurance benefits package including Medical, Dental, & Vision\nPaid time off to foster work/life balance\nProfit sharing\nBonus Pay opportunities\nRetirement funding opportunities\nEducation reimbursement\nHealth club reimbursement\nCareer advancement opportunities\n\nAbout Do it Best Group\nHeadquartered in Fort Wayne, IN, the Do it Best Group is the world's largest hardware, lumber, and building materials buying cooperative in the home improvement industry.
