Mechanic Welder Fabricator

Welder - Waterfront Terminal and Mobile Repairs Enstructure New Haven is a full-service deep-water marine terminal operator and service provider. Strategically located in the Port of New Haven, our terminal provides turnkey, vertically integrated logistics services for dry bulk, liquid bulk, and breakbulk products. With our state-of-the-art infrastructure, we support ship, barge, truck, and rail capabilities, making us one of the most efficient and economical terminal operators on the East Coast. We are seeking a skilled welder to perform in-house and mobile repairs at our waterfront terminal. The ideal candidate will be proficient in heavy stick welding and plasma cutting, ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of various equipment and components. This role involves both preventative and corrective maintenance, requiring a high level of technical expertise and the ability to work independently. Primary Responsibilities: Equipment Repairs: Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all shipping containers and chassis using IICL standards as a guide. Welding and Cutting: Conduct welding and cutting during routine and extensive repair of containers and chassis in accordance with DOT, OSHA, and IICL procedures. Material Handling: Cut and measure materials, working with both pneumatic and electrical power tools. Damage Assessment: Measure and gauge damage for estimates and reparability, complete work orders, and inspection paperwork. Support Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all support equipment as assigned. Chassis Maintenance: Conduct chassis maintenance to ensure safety and operational standards. Mandatory Qualifications: Ability to perform both preventive and corrective maintenance on all assigned support equipment. Must pass an extensive background check. Maintain a valid state driver's license. Must successfully pass a drug screen and physical examination. Excellent communication skills are essential for effective teamwork and reporting. Above-average hand-eye coordination is required for precision in welding and repairs. Proficiency in using basic hand tools. Must hold a TWIC card or have the ability to obtain one. Ability to work outside in various weather conditions. Must be available to work on weekends as needed. Desired Experience: Experience in maintaining and repairing chassis. Proficiency in stick welding techniques. Ability to weld structural components ranging from 3/16" to 1" thickness. Skilled in welding pipes from 2" to 12" in diameter. Experience in repairing heavy equipment such as buckets, grapples, and skip pans, including hard-facing fabrication as needed. Insurability Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and a 3-year driving history that is acceptable to our auto insurance carrier. Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The work environment involves hazards, risks, or discomforts typical of working with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, errant chemicals, heavy equipment, and extreme heights. Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting, and noise levels in the work environment.
