Metallurgical Laboratory Technician
Contractor PositionOur client is seeking a contractor to provide services as part of the Natrium Materials Testing and Characterization team. This role will provide support as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on materials and fuels testing, characterization, and supplier qualification for next generation material and components for sodium cooled fast reactors. You will be responsible for a wide range of materials characterization and testing activities in a laboratory environment located in Everett, WA.Tasks:Perform a wide range of hands-on laboratory-based materials testing and characterization activities to support the Natrium reactorPerform metallography and characterization for a wide range of metallic and ceramic materialsGenerate reports detailing characterization techniques and resulting dataPerform hands-on radiation work, including work inside of a gloveboxOperate and maintain materials focused laboratory equipment such as furnaces, polishing equipment, and metallography equipmentAssist with the design, fabrication, and operation of custom laboratory experimentsCoordinate receipt inspections of incoming materials, sectioning of materials, and shipping of materials with both on-site and off-site individualsKey Qualifications and Skills:A Technology or Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. A degree in Materials Science/Engineering/Technology, Metallurgical Engineering/Technology or a related technical discipline is desiredDemonstrated hands-on laboratory experience is requiredMetallography and sample prep experience is requiredA high attention to detail and quality control is requiredSEM-EDS, microscopy, and other characterization experience is preferredExperience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, or others is preferredLab management experience (e.g., maintaining spaces and/or equipment) is preferredExperience with radiation work, including working within gloveboxes, is desiredStrong communication skills desiredThe service provider will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
