Job Summary:
The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars containing products such as soybeans, meal, chemicals, and oil. This role requires maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer service, working in a variety of environmental conditions, and housekeeping. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, prioritize safety and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
Safely load and unload railcars with products (soybeans, meal, chemicals, and oil) following strict safety and operational protocols.
Operate railcar movers, track mobiles, and other rail-related material handling equipment.
Make all necessary connections for product transfer and ensure railcars are properly secured before and after transfers.
Perform daily inspections and safety checks on equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
Accurately weigh and sample products, ensuring correct placement and tracking of product shipments.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of railcar loading areas, including performing general housekeeping duties.
Report any safety or equipment issues immediately to management and assist in troubleshooting solutions.
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth, timely, and professional railcar loading/unloading processes.
Complete daily logs, reports, and documentation for each railcar transaction.
Participate in ongoing training and adherence to safety protocols to contribute to Green Bison’s zero-injury safety culture.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience operating railcar movers, forklifts, or similar equipment is preferred.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot, cold, and dusty environments.
Must be physically capable of performing tasks such as climbing railcars, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs unassisted), bending, and kneeling.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in weighing, sampling, and recording product data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service during interactions with customers.
Ability to work independently.
Commitment to following strict safety guidelines, including the use of fall protection and other safety equipment.
