Conversely,all duties performed on the job may not be listed.Examples of DutiesExamines working plans of proposed structures for compliancewith state, county, and local zoning laws, ordinances, rules, andregulations.Reads and corrects final plans.Consults with architects, owners, and contractors on complianceproblems.Conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with zoningregulations and applicable rules, and initiates appropriateenforcement actions against violators.May assist in the promulgation of zoning regulations.May supervise staff and work activities. Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports.Directs the establishment and maintenance of essential recordsand files.Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/ormanual recording and computerized information systems used bythe agency, office, or related units.Typical QualificationsThree (3) years of experience in the preparation and revision ofbuilding construction plans and specifications or in the inspectionand enforcement of zoning and/or building constructionlaws and regulations.LICENSE:Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid inNew Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employeemobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of provisions of the local building code and zoningordinance after a period of training.Knowledge of the effective means of obtaining and maintainingproper liaison between municipal authorities and private contractors.Ability to analyze and interpret the local zoning ordinance and otherlocal ordinances that apply to buildings, and state and county laws,rules, regulations, and policies applicable to buildings, zoning, andsanitation.Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reportscontaining findings, conclusions, and recommendations.Ability to achieve compliance with local zoning regulations.Ability to provide guidance to staff and supervise their workperformance. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manualrecording and information systems used by the agency, office, orrelated units.Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in Englishsufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
