This is not a fully remote opportunity.\n\nThe Opportunity\n\nWe’re looking for a Principal Engineer, Core Network to serve as the lead architect and technical visionary for our global network infrastructure.\n\nIn this highly impactful role, you will drive the evolution of next-generation networking technologies — including Segment Routing — while leveraging deep expertise in OSPF, ISIS, BGP, and MPLS to solve complex connectivity challenges at scale.\n\nThis is more than a technical leadership position. As a Principal Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in shaping network strategy, ensuring stability and performance across enterprise-grade environments, and mentoring engineering talent to elevate the organization’s technical capabilities. You’ll bridge high-level business priorities with scalable, resilient, and increasingly automated network execution.\n\nCompensation & Benefits\n\nSalary: Up to $160,000 depending on experience\n\nMedical, dental, and vision insurance\n\n4 01(k) with company match\n\nPaid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays\n\nTuition reimbursement , f lexible spending and health savings account options\n\nEmployee discounts on WOW! services in applicable service areas\n\nCareer development opportunities and the ability to make a meaningful impact within a growing organization\n\nWhat You’ll Do\n\nYou will be responsible for designing, scaling, optimizing, and modernizing high-availability network infrastructure, including:\n\nDesigning and scaling high-availability service provider or enterprise-grade networks\n\nLeading the transition to next-generation network architectures, including Segment Routing\n\nOptimizing core routing protocols including:\n\nOSPF\n\nISIS\n\nBGP\n\nto improve overall network performance and stability\n\nArchitecting and maintaining MPLS-based services, including:\n\nRSVP-TE\n\nLDP\n\nServing as the final escalation point during critical, large-scale network outages\n\nMentoring both junior and senior engineers to raise the team’s collective technical expertise\n\nDriving automation initiatives to reduce manual configuration efforts and minimize human error\n\nPerforming additional duties as assigned\n\nWhat You Bring\n\nMinimum Required Education & Experience\n\n7+ years of experience in large-scale network engineering and architecture\n\nExpert-level mastery of Link State routing protocols, including:\n\nOSPF\n\nISIS\n\nDeep expertise in BGP, including:\n\niBGP\n\neBGP\n\nCommunities\n\nPolicy Routing\n\nAdvanced knowledge of MPLS, including:\n\nL2/L3 VPNs\n\nMulticast\n\nRSVP traffic engineering\n\nStrong understanding of:\n\nNetwork Security\n\nQuality of Service (QoS)\n\nHigh-Availability Network Design\n\nBachelor’s or Associate degree in a field related to Computer Networking\n\nSkills & Abilities for Success in This Role\n\nStrategic Foresight\n\nThe ability to anticipate how architectural decisions made today will impact business performance and scalability over the next 3–5 years.\n\nInfluential Leadership\n\nConfidence navigating complex stakeholder environments and building alignment around major infrastructure investments — even without direct authority.\n\nDecisive Crisis Management\n\nA calm-under-pressure mindset with the ability to lead teams through high-impact outages and restore service quickly and effectively.\n\nEffective Mentorship\n\nA genuine passion for developing engineering talent and helping junior team members grow into senior technical leaders.\n\nAnalytical Troubleshooting\n\nA methodical, data-driven approach to solving highly complex networking challenges using logic, analysis, and packet-level insights.\n\nCross-Functional Communication\n\nThe ability to translate technical network concepts into business value for executives, stakeholders, and non-technical partners.\n\nPhysical Demands & Working Conditions\n\nThe physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
