Batch Operations/Scheduling Engineer
Location: Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 Work Arrangement: On-site Schedule: 40 hours/week Contract: 6 months, Right to Hire Visas Accepted: USC or GC onlyRole OverviewBatch Operations/Scheduling Engineer role focused on enterprise OpCon schedule build, production operations/support, workflow design, batch orchestration, agent administration, scripting, MFT automation, and SQL Server job support.Primary Responsibilities Design and engineer workflows/schedules. Build job dependency chains using completion states and event codes (Finished OK/Failed/Event-driven). Create advanced calendars (fiscal month-end, holiday rules, nth-day logic) and frequency-based schedules. Implement event triggers (file arrivals, system events, external REST/API signals) to automate end-to-end flows. Operate and administer OpCon toolset. Use Solution Manager (web UI) to build, monitor, and manage daily schedules. Use OpCon Deploy for version control and workflow migration/promotion across Dev/Test/Prod. Use OpCon Vision to monitor SLAs and business-process health in real time. Configure Self-Service "service buttons” for on demand runs by non-technical users. Manage agents and execution infrastructure. Install/configure LSAMs (agents) across Windows, Linux/UNIX, IBM i (AS/400), and z/OS (as applicable). Configure Machine Groups/Thresholds for resource control, load balancing, and failover behaviors. Support batch scheduling in Kubernetes/containerized environments where needed. Automate file movement, scripting, and data jobs. Implement Managed File Transfer (MFT) using SFTP/FTP within OpCon for secure automated transfers. Use Global Properties / token replacement for dynamic parameters (paths, dates, runtime variables). Develop and version scripts in PowerShell, Bash, Python, and/or REXX. Run/maintain SQL jobs and support the OpCon backend on Microsoft SQL Server. Operations, troubleshooting, and compliance. Perform root cause analysis using job logs and dependency/PERT-style views; resolve bottlenecks/failures. Configure alerting/notifications via Email and collaboration tools (Teams/Slack). Produce history and change documentation to support audit/compliance needs. Required Technical Skills Hands-on enterprise OpCon experience (schedule build + production operations/support). Strong scheduling concepts: dependencies, calendars, event-based automation, SLA monitoring. Cross-platform operations experience: Windows Server + Linux/UNIX (mainframe/IBM i exposure a plus if in scope). Agent/automation operations: LSAM deployment/configuration, Machine Groups, thresholds, and resource controls. Scripting capability in PowerShell and/or Bash (Python and REXX are strong pluses). MFT automation (SFTP/FTP) and secure file handling patterns. SQL Server working knowledge (running SQL jobs; basic DB troubleshooting/support). Strong production support discipline: incident triage, RCA, documentation, and change controlPreferred Qualifications OpCon Deploy release/promotion experience with Dev/Test/Prod governance. OpCon Vision and Self-Service configuration experience. Kubernetes exposure for containerized batch execution patterns. Integration experience with REST APIs and/or connectors (e.g., ServiceNow, SAP, PeopleSoft, Infor M3). Cloud automation exposure (AWS/Azure/GCP) tied to batch orchestration.
