Position SummaryReporting to the Plant Manager, the Quality & Food Safety Manager will plan, coordinate, and direct quality control programs designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with the established standards. The Quality & Food Safety Manager, personally or through subordinates, will manage the Quality department and all associated activities as well as help supervise and coordinate sanitation activities when applicable. The ideal candidate for this position will have an advanced understanding of food laws and regulations and advanced risk assessment skills, and be comfortable performing and leading root cause analysis and complaint trend analysis.Position ResponsibilitiesAssist in the overall development and implementation of standardized and harmonized Food Safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable OFI and regulatory (Federal, State, Local) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements.Create and implement inspection criteria and procedures pertaining to food quality and safety.Coordinate quality objective goals with production in cooperation with other plant management teams to maximize product reliability and minimize cost.Maintain and review all quality and food safety documentation to ensure goals and objectives are met.Supervise the Quality and Sanitation Departments, including interviewing, training, scheduling, directing work, conducting performance reviews and addressing employee complaints.Provide support and direction for employee daily activities directly or through department supervisors.Maintain certifications/accreditation for regulatory agencies.Lead and provide resource support for internal quality audits, customer quality audits, and regulatory inspections.Coordinate with the Central QA Team for annual GFSI audit and customer audits as required by plant management.Perform periodic facility inspections (internal audits), traceability exercises, and mock recall assessments of compliance with GMPs, Food Safety, and Food Security policies.Provide timely and effective communication to management, acting as a liaison when necessary among production, shipping, sanitation, and QA management to ensure product quality.Follow safe work practices and comply with all company, federal, and state rules and regulations, including right-to-know, emergency evacuation, electrical safety, confined space, bloodborne pathogens, and lockout/tagout.Oversee Quality and Food Safety at Firebaugh and Merced locations.Position RequirementsBachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field is required; alternatively, four (4) years of relevant Quality/Food Safety experience may substitute for the degree.Five (5) years of experience in Quality & Food Safety is required; if degree is substituted, a total of nine (9) years of relevant experience is required.Knowledge of all CA Quality & Food Safety regulations and protocols is required.Demonstrated knowledge of various analytical techniques and procedures used in the food industry.Demonstrated knowledge of pest control programs.Ability to create reports and analyze data/information is required.Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with technical and commercial teams both internally and externally is required.Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and conduct training programs for the QA and operations teams is required.Must be able to focus on operational excellence using team-building skills and clarity of purpose.Ability to identify issues, drill down to root cause, and suggest alternate, complete solutions is required.Minimal travel to and from other facilities will be required.Pay RangeThe pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $120,000 to $200,000 and is based on position responsibilities and geographic location.
