Paralegal- Workers Compensation Group
We are seeking a highly organized Worker's Compensation Paralegal to provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys handling workers' compensation matters. This role assists with all phases of case management from intake through resolution, including medical record review, discovery, hearing preparation, client communication, legal document drafting, and coordination with clients, medical providers, opposing counsel, and the Workers' Compensation Board.The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, capable of managing a high-volume caseload, and able to work independently in a fast-paced legal environment.Essential duties include the following:Manage and maintain workers' compensation case files from inception through settlement or hearing.Review, organize, summarize, and analyze medical records, wage records, and other case-related documentation.Prepare medical chronologies, case summaries, and status reports for attorney review.Coordinate collection of medical records, billing records, and expert reports.Communicate with clients, medical providers, insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, and Workers' Compensation Board personnel regarding case status and documentation.Assist attorneys in developing case strategy and preparing matters for mediation, settlement conferences, and hearings.Draft legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, hearing memoranda, and other legal documents.Prepare and respond to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.Conduct factual, legal, and medical research as requested.Schedule hearings, depositions, independent medical examinations (IMEs), and witness interviews.Assist with witness preparation and hearing preparation, including preparation of exhibits and hearing materials.Monitor case deadlines and ensure timely filing of pleadings and required documents.Maintain accurate billing and time entry records in accordance with firm policies.Utilize case management systems and electronic filing platforms effectively.Provide support to attorneys and other legal staff as needed and perform additional duties or special projects assigned.QualificationsAssociate's degree or Paralegal Certificate desired but not required; Bachelor's degree preferred.Minimum of 2 years of paralegal or legal assistant experience preferred.Knowledge of workers' compensation procedures, rules, and practices is preferred.Understanding of legal terminology, litigation procedures, and document management.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism in client interactions.Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.Technical SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.Experience with legal case management and document management software preferred.Ability to perform online legal research and navigate electronic medical records and databasesefficiently.Familiarity with electronic filing systems and virtual meeting platforms.Work Environment & ScheduleFull-time position: 37.5 hours per weekHybrid work option available, including one remote workday per week (post-90 days introductory period and authorization from supervisor)Occasional overtime may be required during periods of high workload, trial preparation, or litigation deadlines.Why Join Norman, Hanson & DeTroyCollaborative and supportive team environmentMeaningful and challenging case workOpportunity for professional growth and developmentFlexible work arrangementsCompetitive compensation and benefits packageInterested applicants can send their resume and cover letter to hr@nhdlaw.comI will NOT entertain any emails from recruiters or sourcing agencies.
