This role combines technical ownership, system-level responsibility, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver robust, production-ready automotive solutions.\r\nResponsibilities:\r\nLead the design, development, and release of assigned components or subsystems, acting as technical owner and SME throughout the lifecycle.\r\nDevelop and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.\r\nEnsure design compatibility with packaging, manufacturing, assembly, and service requirements.\r\nLead design reviews and DFMEA activities to ensure robust and mature designs.\r\nManage BOMs, part numbers, and engineering releases using PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter).\r\nEnsure all deliverables meet program requirements for timing, cost, and quality.\r\nDefine and execute DVP&R plans for component and system validation.\r\nSupport bench and vehicle testing, simulation activities, and root cause analysis.\r\nCollaborate with test teams and laboratories to ensure requirement compliance and validation coverage.\r\nInterface with suppliers to communicate requirements, review designs, and resolve technical issues.\r\nEvaluate supplier proposals and manage engineering changes (ECR/ECN).\r\nWork cross-functionally with program management, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and service teams.\r\nSupport prototype builds, pilot production, and series launch activities.\r\nApply simulation and analytical methods to optimize performance, efficiency, and robustness.\r\nCoordinate component and system-level testing, including instrumentation and evaluation of test results.\r\nPrepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, reports, and engineering records.\r\nQualifications:\r\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Systems Engineering (or related field)\r\nExperience in automotive product development or system engineering roles\r\nHands-on experience in component or subsystem ownership\r\nRequired Skills:\r\nStrong experience in product development and component design\r\nKnowledge of: Thermal and HVAC systems, Energy management systems, 12V electrical systems, HV battery systems (BMS)\r\nExperience with CAD tools and engineering documentation\r\nFamiliarity with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter)\r\nUnderstanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, and validation processes\r\nStrong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills\r\nAbility to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment\r\nEffective communication and coordination skills\r\nRequired Skills:\r\nExperience with Volkswagen\r\nExperience with EV/HEV systems\r\nKnowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes\r\nExperience with supplier management and sourcing\r\nFamiliarity with simulation tools (thermal, electrical, or system-level)\r\nExperience supporting vehicle launches\r\nUnderstanding of quality processes and change management (ECR/ECN)\r\nWillingness to travel\r\nPhysical Requirements:\r\nWork is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.\r\nMust be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.\r\nFLSA Status/Working Schedule:\r\nLocation: Novi, MI or Charlotte NC\r\nSchedule: Full Time/ 40 hours per week\r\nTravel: 20% domestics travel\r\nOvertime: as required\r\nAssignment Start: June 2026December 2030\r\nDuration: up to 4.5 years\r\nDisclaimer: This job description is a high-level overview of general expectations of this position.
