Job Description - Director of EngineeringOur client is a General Contractor specializing in underground electrical distribution, substations, and solar construction throughout the continental United States. They are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead and scale a multi-disciplinary engineering organization across their active project portfolio of utility-scale PV, BESS, and Substation projects.This role is accountable for the technical integrity of all engineering deliverables from concept through IFC, establishing standards and QA/QC processes, and aligning engineering with project schedules, procurement, and construction execution. The Director of Engineering serves as the senior technical authority across the portfolio, representing engineering with clients, lenders, investors, and internal leadership.ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and scale a multi-disciplinary engineering organization across active project portfoliosManage Engineering Managers and Leads, driving performance, accountability, and talent developmentEstablish engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and consistent design practicesOwn technical integrity of all PV, BESS, and Substation engineering from concept through IFCReview and approve all major electrical, civil, structural, and HV design deliverablesDrive value engineering, change control, and full compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, IEC, and AHJsAlign engineering deliverables with project schedules, procurement, and construction executionOversee RFIs, submittals, constructability reviews, and field engineering supportSupport commissioning, startup, and closeout including as-builts and O&M documentationDefine technical specifications and support procurement for major equipment and materialsLead or support technical bid evaluations and vendor qualificationManage engineering interfaces with EPCs, vendors, and third-party engineersChampion a safety-first engineering culture embedded in all designsOversee engineering QA/QC, peer reviews, and inspection processesManage permitting and coordination with AHJs and utilitiesSupport early-stage development, feasibility, and conceptual engineeringProvide engineering input to estimating, budgets, and technical assumptionsRepresent engineering with clients, lenders, investors, and internal leadershipJob RequirementsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline. PE license strongly preferred15+ years of engineering experience, with at least 10 years in EPC or construction delivery roles in the renewable energy sectorDemonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary engineering teams of 15+ engineers across concurrent projectsIn-depth knowledge of utility-scale PV systems including DC collection, inverter station design, MV/HV electrical systems, and SCADA/DASHands-on experience with electrical design tools (PVsyst, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, ETAP, SKM, or equivalent) and civil/structural coordinationStrong working knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, and utility interconnection processes (CAISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, etc.)Proven track record managing engineering deliverables to schedule in fast-paced, multi-project EPC environmentsWillingness and ability to travel to project sites as required (up to 20%-25%)Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary with an outstanding benefits package including:401(k) & 401(k) matchingHealth, Dental, and Vision InsuranceLife InsuranceEmployee assistance programFlexible spending accountPaid time off / accrued vacationOur client is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Job Type: Full-time
