Sanitarian
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Conducts Inspections of Licensed Establishments toEnsure Compliance with State, and Local Laws and Codes: Providesperiodic inspections of restaurants, taverns, campgrounds, mobile homeparks, swimming pools, lodging establishments, recreational/educationalcamps, vending machines, retail food establishments and schools inPortage County. Completes follow-up inspections of establishmentsaccording to the county\'s enforcement policies. Inspects newestablishments and change of operator establishments prior to licensing.Reviews plans and specifications to determine compliance with applicableregulations. Collects water and food samples for laboratory analysis.Enforces Portage County\'s environmental health ordinances andapplicable state codes. Gathers evidence, makes reports, and initiatescomplaints for prosecution. Conducts training courses in food handlingand participates in HACCP evaluations. Participates in investigation offoodborne illness outbreaks. Prepares and maintains records and reportsas required. Inspects tattoo parlors and body piercing establishmentsregarding environmental health code requirements. Performs sanitarysurveys of all DNR transient non-community water systems. ProvidesGeneral Environmental Health Services: Investigates human health hazardsincluding, but not limited to, indoor air quality, rabies, and unsafewell complaints. Documents investigation findings, submitsrecommendations for corrective action, and follows up to assure thatappropriate action has been taken. Conducts environmental leadassessments and provides lead poisoning prevention education.Participate in Emergency Preparedness activities and assist as neededduring public health emergencies. Provides Informational and EducationalServices to County Citizens, Officials and Other Departments: Developsinformational materials relative to Environmental Health programs andconducts public information seminars. Provides consultation on anindividual and/or group basis regarding environmental health hazards andissues. \*\*\*\*\* OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: One yearEnvironmental Or Public Health Related Work Experience Required.Registered sanitarian preferred. Must seek State of Wisconsin SanitarianRegistration when eligible if not Registered Sanitarian at time of hire.Environmental health related certification/registration preferred.
