Our mission is to teach coding in a way that makes learning exciting and accessible for all students.\nJob Summary\nAs a Code Coach, you will mentor incredible students, teach them how to code, and help them learn to think like programmers.\nYou will be part of a supportive and enthusiastic team of instructors who love technology and teaching.\nThis is a part-time position ranging from 6–15 hours per week, depending on your availability. Most schedules are consistent weekly time slots.\nResponsibilities\nA Code Coach (Coding Tutor) is a mentor who teaches kids how to code.\nAt theCoderSchool we offer two main teaching styles, and your assignment may vary based on your schedule, skills, and interests.\nCode Coaching (1:1 or 2:1 Lessons)\nPersonalized coding lessons with one or two students at a time\nYounger students typically learn Scratch or Snap\nOlder students often work in Python, JavaScript, or other languages such as Java or C++\nStudents often build games, apps, or projects based on their interests\nLessons may follow curriculum or be customized based on the student\nCreativity and personalization are strongly encouraged.\nCode Classes\nSmall group classes following a structured curriculum\nFocused primarily on block-based coding and Python\nSmall class ratios (typically 4:1 or 5:1 students per coach)\nWhat You Will Experience as a Code Coach\nMentor and inspire amazing students who may become the next generation of programmers\nCollaborate with fellow Code Coaches who are passionate about technology\nGive back to the community by helping young students build valuable tech skills\nTeach the technologies you enjoy while also learning new platforms and languages\nRequirementsPassion\nPassion is essential. This role is about inspiring and supporting kids while sharing your love of technology.\nCommunication Skills\nYou must be a strong communicator and comfortable speaking with both students and parents. Patience and positivity are key when working with children.\nEducation / Experience\nCollege Code Coaches should be pursuing a degree in:\nComputer Science\nEngineering\nOr a related technical field\nVeteran Code Coaches may also qualify with relevant industry experience.\nCoding Skills\nGeneral familiarity with programming is expected. Helpful languages include:\nPython (required)\nBlock-based coding (Scratch)\nJavaScript\nHTML/CSS\nJava\nRoblox (Lua)\nMinecraft (block coding)\nYou must:\nKnow basic Python\nBe willing to learn advanced Python\nBe willing to learn block-based coding (Scratch)\nUnity experience is a bonus.\nDeep expertise is not required. We value coaches who can problem solve and learn alongside students.\nTeaching Experience\nExperience teaching or mentoring kids in any subject is a plus.\nWork Authorization\nCandidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
