Mammographer

Position Summary Performs and produces quality mammograms for patients. Assists radiologist with invasive procedures. Position Schedule This is a PRN position working variable hours. Reporting Reports directly to the Mammography Supervisor and indirectly to the Mammography Charge Technologist. Supervision None Typical Physical Demands Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Assists patients and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 vision to operate equipment and review images. Typical Working Conditions Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment Duties and Responsibilities 1. Prepares patient for examination including taking a medical history and answering questions about the exam. 2. Performs Mammography exams. 3. Complies with company and department polices, protocols, and procedures. 4. Completes PenRad, RIS and PACS entries. 5. Performs required QA/QC procedures when assigned. 6. Follows prescribed safety standards in operating radiologic equipment. 7. Responsible for care and safety of patients during the exam. 8. Maintains radiologic equipment and examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. 9. Participates in staff development and educational activities including attendance at required meetings and participating in committees as requested. 10. Maintains required credentials and licensing. 11. Adheres to the ARRT's Standard of Ethics. 12. Additional duties as assigned. Performance Requirements Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to sufficiently determine area for examination. Knowledge of Mammography exams and procedures Knowledge of Mammography equipment operation and testing. Ability to acquire working knowledge of RIS system, EPIC EMR, PowerShare, PACS, Qgenda, and PenRad. Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement. Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging. Skill in trouble shooting equipment operation and performing simple adjustments. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and staff. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices. Ability to identify problems and to communicate clearly. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Education High school diploma or equivalent Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program. Experience One year of experience preferred or recommendation from training program. Certificate/License Current Radiography (R) certification from with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current Mammography (M) certification preferred or must obtain Mammography credential within one year of hire. Current license with the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy program. Current CPR certification or obtained within three months of date of hire.
