This role is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing scalable analytical data models that power reporting, insights, and decision-making across the organization and reports directly to the Director of Data.\nIn this environment, the Analytics Engineer will primarily leverage PostgreSQL-based data workflows hosted in Heroku and deliver business-facing insights through Sigma. The ideal candidate combines strong SQL expertise, sound data modeling practices, and a product mindset toward data quality, performance, and usability.\nRole Details:\nJob Type: Remote, Full-time, Exempt position\nLocation: United States Required, Eastern Time Zone Preferred\nSalary: $115,000- $125,000 per year (based on experience)\nBackground Check Required: Must successfully pass a Chapter One background check.\nReporting Structure: Director of Data\nKey Responsibilities:\nImplement scalable, production-grade analytical data models in PostgreSQL database.\nBuild, maintain, and optimize SQL-based ELT transformations within the Heroku/Postgres environment.\nTranslate business and reporting requirements into clean, reusable data transformations and views.\nPartner closely with business stakeholders to define metrics and reporting logic.\nDevelop and enhance Sigma dashboards and data models to ensure clarity, usability, and trust in metrics.\nOptimize query performance, indexing strategies, and materialization approaches in Postgres.\nMaintain and improve existing transformation workflows for reliability and maintainability.\nImplement data quality checks, documentation, and testing practices.\nEstablish and follow data modeling and naming standards across the analytics layer.\nInvestigate and resolve data discrepancies and performance issues.\nRequired Qualifications\nExperience:\n2–5 years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or a related data role.\nDemonstrated experience working directly with PostgreSQL in an analytics context.\nExperience supporting business intelligence and reporting workflows.\nTechnical Skills:\nAdvanced SQL proficiency, including:\nComplex joins and CTEs\nWindow functions\nQuery performance tuning\nIndexing strategies in Postgres\nStrong experience building analytical models in PostgreSQL.\nHands-on experience working in Heroku-hosted data environments or similar PaaS platforms.\nProficiency building dashboards and data models in Sigma (or comparable BI tools).\nSolid understanding of dimensional modeling (facts, dimensions, grain, slowly changing dimensions).\nExperience with Git-based version control.\nCore Competencies:\nStrong analytical thinking and structured problem solving.\nAbility to translate ambiguous business questions into scalable data solutions.\nHigh attention to data accuracy, documentation, and maintainability.\nStrong cross-functional communication skills.\nOwnership mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with Postgres performance tuning at scale.\nFamiliarity with Heroku data pipelines, scheduling, or automation patterns.\nExperience implementing data quality tests and monitoring.\nExposure to semantic layer or metric standardization work.\nWorking knowledge of Python or scripting for data tasks.\nExperience supporting product, or education analytics.\nPerformance Metrics\nSuccess in this role will be measured by:\nQuality, reliability, and scalability of Postgres analytical models.\nPerformance improvements in SQL transformations and dashboard queries.\nAdoption and trust of Sigma dashboards by business stakeholders.\nReduction in data discrepancies and metric conflicts.\nCompleteness and clarity of model and dashboard documentation.\nResponsiveness to stakeholder reporting needs.\nStability of Heroku-based data workflows.\nEqual Opportunity Employer:\nChapter one is an equal opportunity employer.
