Detention Center Booking Clerk
DescriptionPerforms a variety of routine and complex duties in overseeing the computer operations, data entry, and record keeping functions for the detention center as they apply to inmate records. Working conditions include regular exposure to dangerous and /or hazardous situations, continuous noises, bright lights, contagious diseases, humid surroundings, extreme hot or cold temperatures, dust and odors.RequirementsDesirable Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of: The operation of standard office equipment Considerable knowledge of: Knowledge of the applicable laws, ordinances and department rules and regulations;; ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers and superiors; ability to follow verbal and written instructions Emergency plans and procedures. Support services and their respective function.Ability to: Act quickly and calmly in emergency or dangerous situations. Deal courteously but firmly with inmates, visitors and others often under contentious circumstances. Make decisions recognizing established precedents and practices and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, general public, courts, attorneys and other related officials. Maintain complete and accurate records. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Necessary Special & Physical RequirementsMust be a United States Citizen.Must be at least 18 years of age.Completion of high school or GED.Subject to shift work, extended duty hours, twenty-four hour call-back, holiday and weekend duty.Must not have been convicted of a felony or serous misdemeanorSubject to an extensive background check.Subject to random drug and alcohol testing and polygraph examination during employmentMay be required to possess a valid driver's licenseMust be able to operate County government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner.All position requires drug testing before employment and will require a pre-employment physical.Pursuant to the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, all employees must remain drug and alcohol free when reporting to work, while at work and while engaged in any work related activities.Based on Federal Regulation 19-10 all positions in this classification are eligible for and will be offered hepatitis vaccinations. In addition, employees will be required to sign a statement stating they have accepted or declined the hepatitis vaccination.
