Phlebotomist- Full Time Nights
Position General Summary:The Phlebotomist is responsible for the routine collection and processing of specimens as well as correctly ordering and receiving test specimens according to established policies and procedures.Technical Laboratory staff analyzes patient testing that helps physicians to diagnose and treat diseases. This position is an Essential position at the facility to ensure efficient operations and patient care. Employees hired into an Essential position are expected to report to work for their scheduled shifts regardless of the environmental weather and road conditions that may exist.Position Duties and Responsibilities:PhlebotomistPerform phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samplesPrepare samples / specimen processing for analysisPerform stocking of supplies for laboratory usePerform any necessary or required clerical duties such as filing, faxing and organization of department orders/papers.Facility General Responsibilities: Attend facility new hire orientation as scheduled by HRComplete Department Orientation Initial Competency within 7 days of hire dateComplete Department Initial Skills Competency within 90 days of hire dateFollow facility and OSHA safety rules and proceduresRespect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgroundsFollow HIPAA regulations at all timesBe punctual and dependent for assigned shiftsDress within the dress code requirements of the facilityIdentifies all patients using at least two identifiers verbally (name and DOB), and by checking ID braceletFollows Hospital Wide and Department Specific policies and proceduresMust interact with physicians, guest, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectivelyKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Sound understanding of the clinical laboratory dynamics and work flowSound understanding of Laboratory practiceCognitive skills as related to a clinical laboratoryCritical thinking and problem solving abilitiesGood Communication skills with ability to communicate appropriately with all age groupsVersatile knowledge of basic computer skills with a preferred skill set of Information Technology, iCloud capabilities and Microsoft OfficeAbility to perform under stress and cope with difficult situationsGood time management and organizational skills to complete lab tasks.Continued practice of good stewardship as a representative member of the laboratory department as well as the hospital unit as a wholeMust be able to work as a functioning member of the various team situations that a healthcare setting demandsPosition Requirements: Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Certifications: Experience as a Phlebotomist is preferred but not requiredWorking Conditions:Patients need round-the-clock care; therefore working hours include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Clinical / Technical laboratory staff spends a considerable amount of time walking, bending, stretching and standing; therefore, they must follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury. Clinical / Technical laboratory staff must be able to work accurately around frequent interruptions. Lab staff frequently faces hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases and must be prepared for such instances and take proper precautions at all times. In addition, lab staff may have to collect blood samples from patients that may be confused, irrational, agitated, and/or uncooperative.Physical Requirements / Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds.
