All of us at Basic Fun! are dedicated to enriching lives and creating unforgettable moments through imaginative play.\nPosition Overview:\nReporting directly to the Director of IT and working closely with the Lead Software Engineer, the Data Solutions Engineer will design, build, and optimize scalable data architecture, backend services, and system integrations that power enterprise reporting and automation initiatives.\n\nThis role operates independently in production environments and thinks beyond dashboards. While Power BI is required, it is a requirement within the role not the primary identity. The focus is on strong data architecture, backend engineering, and systems thinking.\nResponsibilities include but are not limited to:\n\nDesign and optimize scalable SQL-based data architecture\nBuild and maintain ETL pipelines and staging layers\nDevelop and consume REST APIs for system integrations\nBuild lightweight backend services (C# / .NET preferred)\nImprove system performance through indexing, tuning, and execution plan analysis\nReplace manual workflows with automated backend processes\nDesign reusable data services across ERP, WMS, and external vendor systems\nBuild and optimize Power BI semantic models with strong DAX logic\nEnsure clean separation between data modeling and visualization layers\nSkills, knowledge and abilities:\nEducation: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.\nExperience:\n7+ years of professional experience in data development, backend development, or data engineering\n5+ years of advanced SQL Server development\n3+ years working with APIs and system integrations\n3+ years building BI semantic models (Power BI or similar tools)\nExperience operating independently in production environments\nCore Technical Requirements:\n\n1. Advanced SQL & Data Architecture (Primary Focus)\nStrong T-SQL skills (stored procedures, CTEs, window functions, indexing strategies)\nPerformance tuning and execution plan analysis\nExperience designing star schema and hybrid models\nETL and staging layer design\nExperience handling medium-to-large datasets (10M+ rows)\nUnderstanding normalization vs. denormalization trade-offs\n2. API & Backend Development\nExperience consuming REST APIs (JSON-based)\nBackend development experience (C# / .NET preferred)\nFamiliarity with OAuth, token-based authentication, API keys\nError logging, retry logic, and resilient integration design\nAbility to design lightweight integration services\nUnderstanding asynchronous processing concepts\n3. Automation & Systems Thinking\nExperience replacing manual processes with automated workflows\nAbility to design reusable backend data services\nUnderstanding of cross-system dependencies (ERP, WMS, external vendors)\nStrong architectural thinking and problem-solving ability\n4.
