Deputy Clerk of Courts - Jury

JOB This position is responsible for maintaining the jury duty program and procedures in Walworth County pursuant to Chapter 756 of the Wisconsin Statutes. This clerk will communicate with the public and other agencies regarding jury updates and procedures. This position is also responsible for the accurate and timely processing of passport applications. SUPERVISION This position has no supervisory responsibilities, however does act as a lead worker to the department’s Administrative Clerk positions. Ensure operations adhere to policies and regulations. Analyze jury statistics to achieve qualitative and quantitative targets. Administratively support jury trials. Help with the jury selection process from summons through voir dire. Interact with the public, in person and over the telephone and respond to public inquiries in a tactful and courteous manner while providing quality customer service. Assist colleagues whenever necessary. Access, enter, update and retrieve data ensuring accuracy and validity of information on specialized Circuit Court Automation Project (CCAP) to include the jury module. Handle confidential documents ensuring they remain secure. Check attendance with bailiffs to determine which jurors are missing as well as giving jurors a brief orientation on guidelines. Prepare juror seating charts and strike lists, making copies of the lists and subsequently submit the list to the Calendar Clerk clerking the trial. May contact jurors who failed to report to request that they come in. Send those jurors who cannot be reached by phone a failure to report letter. Enter jury attendance and mileage into the computer for payment and subsequently process payments. Pull jury panel for the following week on a day-by-day basis. Submit the jury panel list and jury slips to the Calendar Clerk before each jury trial. Make weekly jury recordings and each day before a jury trial. Excuse/postpone jurors based on verbal and/or written communication received following the bi-weekly mailing. Handle verbal and/or written communication from potential jurors regarding jury duty requirements, postponements, excusals, not wanting to serve, etc. Back-up Calendar Clerks for late night and other Deputy Clerks. Answer phones and wait on customers at the counter. Contact bailiffs and schedule the needed services for jury trials. Clerk in court weekly. Back-up all courts when necessary. Prepare Order to Show Cause paperwork for those jurors who fail to appear for jury duty two or more times and subsequently submit to the judge for signature. Submit signed paperwork to Sheriff's Office for service. Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
