DescriptionCommunity Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.Position SummaryThe Outreach and Engagement Specialist is responsible for building relationships within the community to connect individuals with recovery support and related services. This role conducts active outreach through community partnerships, presentations, and events to increase awareness of available programs and resources. Using strong communication skills and lived experience when appropriate, the specialist will engage individuals, reconnect participants who have been lost to contact, and encourage continued participation in recovery-focused services.Duties & ResponsibilitiesConduct outreach within the community to connect individuals with recovery support services and program resourcesBuild and maintain partnerships with local organizations including detox programs, outpatient treatment providers, recovery-based organizations, and the NYCH communityRepresent the program at community events, meetings, and resource fairs to increase awareness of available servicesFacilitate presentations, workshops, or informational sessions about recovery supports and program offeringsEngage individuals in the community and provide information about recovery pathways and available resourcesConduct follow-up outreach to participants who have been lost to contact in order to re-engage them in servicesAssist individuals with accessing services and navigating community resourcesMaintain documentation of outreach efforts, community contacts, and participant engagement activitiesCollaborate with internal staff to coordinate outreach strategies and strengthen community partnershipsParticipate in team meetings, trainings, and program development activitiesQualificationsMust hold a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) credential, or be eligible and willing to obtain one.Experience with community outreach, public speaking, or facilitating presentationsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to build relationships and effectively engage individuals from diverse backgroundsKnowledge of recovery principles and familiarity with community-based resourcesAbility to work independently in the community and collaboratively with a teamStrong organizational and documentation skillsLived experience in recovery with knowledge of multiple pathways of recovery, including abstinence-based recovery, medication-assisted treatment, and harm reduction.Experience providing peer mentorship, recovery support, or advocacy services.Ability to engage and support diverse, low-threshold populations, including individuals experiencing substance use, housing instability, or other barriers to care.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including comfort with public speaking, outreach, and participant engagement.Ability to assist with administrative tasks, including data entry, tracking, and registration for training programs.Comfortable traveling to various community and training sites as needed.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented care.Location: 56 Bay Street 1st FloorPosition Status: Full TimeFLSA Status: Non-exemptBenefitsSalary range: 46,300-51,300 annually, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.Additionally, we offer an excellent benefits package that includes:generous paid time off (4 weeks of vacation plus paid holidays, personal, and sick time)medicaldentalvisionsupplemental benefits including employer provided basic life insuranceemployee assistance programstuition reimbursement and fitness reimbursement after 1 year of employmentretirement plan that includes employer matching, and more!CHASI is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to hiring and supporting a diverse staff.
