Regular Youth Leader placements or long term Youth Leader Substitute assignments may be available to candidates with Monday-Friday availability.\n\nSUMMARY OF POSITION\nYouth Leaders may work at different LEARN program sites throughout LEARN’s service area and receive their assignments based on their availability. A Youth Leader Substitute will be called upon to fill-in for a needed assignment. Under the direction of a Site Coordinator, Youth Leaders and Youth Leader Substitutes work directly with an assigned class of approximately 20 students in academic, physical activity, and/or enrichment activities. All Youth Leaders ensure the safety of the students while following a prescribed program plan, which may occur during school, after school, and occasionally on weekends.\n\nAvailability Requirements:\nAfter School Programs: Must be available to work a minimum of 2 days per week Monday-Friday 2:00pm-6:00pm, 1:00pm-6:00pm.\nBefore School Programs: Must be available to work a minimum of 2 days per week Monday-Friday 6:15am-9:15am\n\nWhat you'll do:\nESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES\nLead a group of assigned students in an academic, physical activity/sports, or enrichment activity;\nEnsure the supervision and safety of assigned students at all times during program hours;\nProvide instruction in academic or enrichment activity using materials provided by the program;\nProvide small-group tutoring and/or homework assistance;\nServe as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, and attitude;\nArrives punctually in order to meet responsibilities on site;\nEngage youth by following, implementing, and assisting in lesson plans;\nAssist in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the program site clean and organized;\nPromote positive interactions between students, in accordance with child safety guidelines;\nCommunicate student needs to Site Coordinator, teachers, school administration and parents as appropriate;\nEnsure program requirements are met on a daily basis, such as checking students in/out on the Daily Attendance Roster as well as the distribution and consumption of healthy snacks;\nOther duties as assigned\n\nQualifications:\nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE\n\n1. Graduation from High School, AND\n2. Passing score on the district examination for Instructional Assistants (distributed in-office during the interviewing process)\n\nNotes:\nExperience working with youth in an educational setting is strongly desired.\nUndergraduate course work, major or emphasis in a related field (Child Development, Education, Psychology, etc.) is desired.\n\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES\nInterest in working with, mentoring, and tutoring at-promise youth;\nAbility to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff and others;\nAbility to effectively tutor students in assigned subject(s);\nAbility to work as part of a team and act as a positive role model for students;\nAbility to write basic reports summarizing events\n\nLANGUAGE & COMPUTER SKILLS\nThe ability to speak Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese is desired at many of our school sites;\nCompetence with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.\n\nPHYSICAL SKILLS\nMust be able to lift and carry small loads (up to 25 lbs.) and stand for prolonged hours.\n\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS\nMust complete Live Scan - Department of Justice and FBI Criminal Background Check\nMust complete TB Health Clearance.\nMust be willing to work some evenings and weekends;\nMust be willing and able to travel anywhere in the region LEARN serves for a job assignment, off-site meetings, trainings, and events.\nMust be eligible to accept all job assignments.\n\nCondition of Employment & Benefits:\nThis is a Part-Time Casual, non-benefited, non-exempt, hourly position. This position requires the candidate to be available to work at least 2 days per week, Monday through Friday, during program hours, which is primarily after school until 6:00pm and occasionally on weekends. Hours of work will vary from 0 – 29 hours per week; specific times and schedules vary, depending upon the school and the needs of the program.\n\nThe work calendar for Youth Leaders and all other part-time casual field staff aligns with the academic calendars of our partner school districts. The job has recess breaks during fall, winter, spring and summer.
