Bring your intelligence and creative spirit and join us at MPD!\n\nThe Sensor Modeling and Simulation Department (SMSD) supports all aspects of advanced remote sensing system development: designing and assessing the performance of optics and electro-optical focal plane arrays, modeling the end-to-end sensing system, simulating target scenes and atmospheres, developing innovative data processing and computer vision algorithms, and producing simulated data products for new applications.\n\nThe selected candidate will be required to work full time on-site at our facility at Chantilly, VA\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\n\nDevelop and use innovative techniques and tools for applications including image chain modeling, spectroscopy, computer vision, change detection and tracking, space domain awareness, lidar and 3D remote sensing, EO/IR remote sensing, product quality metrics, optics, calibration, and data simulation\n\nDesign, perform, document, and present results of studies using deterministic and probabilistic numerical analysis techniques\n\nAdvise government and internal Aerospace customers on operational and R&D remote sensing system performance\n\nPresent and promote your work to contractors and customers to inform and influence key decisions and drive system requirements\n\nBuild physics-based modeling code while collaborating with small teams to develop end-to-end system and performance modeling tools\n\nWhat You Need to be Successful – Engineering Specialist\n\nMinimum Requirements:\n\nBachelor’s degree in a related STEM field, particularly Remote Sensing, Imaging Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Optical or Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline\n\nEight years of experience after bachelor’s degree with remote sensing system modeling, simulation, design, data processing, calibration, characterization, phenomenology, or applications\n\nScientific programming and version control skills, ideally C++, Python, and git\n\nCommunication expertise, including technical briefings and simplifying complex technical topics\n\nExperience modeling and evaluating remote sensing systems\n\nWillingness to travel approximately 10% of time\n\nThis position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance\n\nIn addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Sr. Engineering Specialist:\n\nTwelve years of experience after bachelor’s degree\n\nTrack record of leadership and mentorship\n\nExperience with modeling and simulation of electro-optical, visible, and/or infrared remote sensing systems including sensor performance figures of merit (e.g., SNR, Pd, Pfa)\n\nHow You Can Stand Out\n\n It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:\n\nAdvanced degree in a related STEM field, particularly Remote Sensing, Imaging Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Optical or Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline\n\nExperience with\n\nimage reduction pipelines (i.e., removal of bias, gain correction etc.)\n\na variety of EO/IR imaging systems, such as panchromatic/visible, infrared, multispectral and hyperspectral, ultraviolet photography, motion detection systems, 3D\n\nLiDAR system modeling and performance metrics\n\nmodeling atmospheric radiative transfer effects\n\nagile software development and Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence)\n\nsensor hardware performance and evaluation\n\nsynthetic scene generation (e.g., DIRSIG)\n\nCurrent and active Top Secret/SCI security clearance\n\nWe offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.
