We are looking for an experienced Structured Cabling Solutions Architect who can lead the technical design of cabling solutions from the initial customer conversation and on-site survey through solution design, Bill of Materials, Statement of Work, proposal support, and transition to the implementation team.\n\nThis is a customer-facing technical role for someone who understands both how structured cabling systems should be designed and how they are actually installed in the field.\n\nThe ideal candidate will be comfortable walking a customer site, understanding the existing infrastructure, discussing technical and business requirements with the customer, developing the appropriate solution, producing an accurate BOM, and supporting the DISYS sales and delivery teams through project award and implementation.\n\nPlease note: This is a full-time, in-office corporate position located in Ashburn, Virginia. Only local candidates will be considered.\n\nWhat You Will Do\n\nParticipate in customer discovery meetings with Outside Sales and technical teams to understand business, network, infrastructure, capacity and facility requirements.\nConduct on-site surveys of customer facilities, offices, campuses, warehouses, data centers, and other environments.\nAssess MDFs, IDFs, telecommunications rooms, pathways, cable trays, conduit, racks, cabinets, grounding, power availability, existing copper and fiber infrastructure and other physical infrastructure conditions.\nDesign structured cabling solutions using copper, including Cat6 and Cat6A, single-mode and multimode fiber, backbone cabling, and associated connectivity components.\nDetermine cable routes, pathway requirements, rack elevations, telecommunications room requirements, fiber counts, copper drops, patching requirements and equipment placement.\nDevelop accurate Bills of Materials including cable, fiber, racks, cabinets, patch panels, fiber enclosures, connectors, jacks, faceplates, cable management, pathway components, grounding components and other materials required for implementation.\nDevelop cable counts, material quantities, labor assumptions and technical inputs required to support project estimating and pricing.\nPrepare technical Statements of Work that clearly define scope, assumptions, responsibilities, deliverables, exclusions, testing requirements and acceptance criteria.\nDevelop and review drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, rack elevations, pathway diagrams and other technical documentation using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio or similar tools.\nReview customer drawings, RFPs, specifications, and construction documents to identify technical requirements, risks, assumptions, and questions requiring clarification.\nDevelop RFIs and participate in customer technical discussions and scope clarification meetings.\nWork closely with sales and estimating teams to develop technically compliant and commercially competitive cabling solutions.\nPresent proposed designs to customers and explain technical recommendations, alternatives, assumptions, and trade-offs.\nPerform technical reviews before submitting proposals to confirm the proposed BOM and scope accurately reflect the solution being offered.\nConduct implementation handoffs with Project Managers and field teams after contract award to ensure the delivery team understands the design, assumptions, and customer expectations.\nProvide technical support during installation when field conditions require design clarification or modification.\nReview installation documentation, test results, redlines, and as-built documentation as required.\nHelp DSI Tech establish repeatable engineering standards, site survey templates, BOM templates, estimating standards, preferred product configurations, and quality control processes for the Structured Cabling practice.\n\nTechnical Experience\n\n7 or more years of experience designing and supporting structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure projects.\nStrong hands-on knowledge of Cat6, Cat6A, single-mode fiber, multimode fiber, backbone cabling, and horizontal cabling.\nStrong understanding of MDF and IDF design, telecommunications rooms, racks, cabinets, patching, pathways, cable trays, conduit, grounding and bonding.\nExperience conducting onsite surveys and translating field conditions into an implementable technical design.\nDemonstrated experience developing detailed Bills of Materials and supporting project cost estimates.\nExperience developing Statements of Work, design packages, cable schedules, drawings and implementation documentation.\nExperience with commercial office, enterprise, campus and data center cabling environments.\nKnowledge of BICSI methodologies and applicable ANSI/TIA standards including TIA 568, TIA 569, TIA 606, TIA 607 and applicable data center standards.\nWorking knowledge of applicable NEC requirements and local building and fire codes related to telecommunications infrastructure.\nExperience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio or comparable design and markup tools.\nStrong understanding of cabling testing and certification requirements including copper certification and fiber testing.\nAbility to evaluate multiple technical approaches and recommend solutions based on performance, scalability, constructability and cost.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nCurrent BICSI RCDD certification required\nBICSI OSP or other relevant telecommunications infrastructure certifications are a plus.\nExperience designing structured cabling for data centers and mission-critical environments is highly desirable.\nExperience with manufacturers and ecosystems such as CommScope, Panduit, Corning, Belden, Leviton, Siemon or comparable enterprise cabling solutions is desirable.\nExperience supporting federal government, state and local government, commercial enterprise or data center customers is a plus.\nExperience with low voltage systems beyond structured cabling, including WiFi infrastructure, CCTV, access control, DAS or AV infrastructure, is a plus.\n\nWhat Success Looks Like\n\nSuccess in this position means that a DSI Tech Outside Sales can bring you into an early customer conversation and rely on you to take technical ownership of the opportunity.
