Position SummaryWe are seeking a Pavement Marking Operations Assistant to join the VDOT Richmond District Pavement Marking Crew. This role primarily involves setting up and relocating work zone signs during paint operations, supporting safe and efficient roadway marking projects.This position pays $30/hour, is a 6-month assignment, 35–40 hours per week (weather permitting), no overtime, and is located at VDOT Richmond District Pavement Marking Crew, South Chesterfield, VA.Primary DutiesOperate shadow vehicles and/or TMA to support mobile/moving and stationary pavement marking operations per VDOT Work Area Protection Manual (WAPM) Provide safe driving in VDOT work zones Ensure proper drying time for wet pavement markings and prevent motorists from driving through wet paint Load and unload pavement marking materials and equipment Set up, relocate, and remove work zone cones and signs Operate hand tools and equipment (e.g., gas blower, shovel, broom, cleaning supplies) Provide excellent customer service to the public at all times Minimum QualificationsBasic Work Zone Certification Valid driver’s license Ability to operate handheld and hands-free communication devices while driving Ability to read, interpret, and follow directions Ability to speak English Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb steps Ability to work outdoors during summer months Reliable, dependable, and able to work well with others Preferred QualificationsCDL license Successful ATHENA Employees Will Display The Following CharacteristicsYou strive to be the best in your field currently and in the future.
