Activities include, but are not limited to, feeding and care or pasture-based livestock, (cattle, pigs, and poultry), crop production tasks such as ground preparation, planting, cultivating, harvesting; hay harvest, transport, and feeding; and basic maintenance and repairs on equipment, fences, water lines, and facilities.Your Key Responsibilities:Assist with daily livestock feeding and rotational grazingCollaborate and cooperate with staff to complete time sensitive tasks such as feeding, harvesting, and working cattleAssist with basic repairs and maintenance on vehicles, tractors, fences, and water systemsWhat You'll Bring:Minimum Qualifications Required:Some high schoolEducation required to ensure success in this position:Some high schoolExperience required to ensure success in this position:Experience working outdoorsExperience with livestock, row crops, hay, tractor operation, fencing, and basic maintenanceSpecial skills, knowledge, and abilities:Professional conduct that embodies Berea's Workplace ExpectationsWillingness to work with a diverse student body and college staffAbility to operate typical farm equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, hand tools, tractors and farm implementsAbility to work with large and small livestock including beef cattle, poultry, and swineLicense, certification, or registration necessary:Valid Driver's LicensePhysical requirements:Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and groundsAbility to repeated lift 75 lbs.Ability to work in hot or cold environments, both inside and outsideAbility to engage in rigorous activity and extensive walkingAbility to engage in a full range of visual observation, physical mobility, and motor skills needed to accomplish tasksEnvironmental conditions:Farm conditions with exposure to fumes, dust, pollen, plants, animals, manure, insects, rain, ices, snow, heat, and humidityWalk in freezers and refrigeratorsAbility to operate the following vehicles or equipment:Tractors with typical implements used for mowing, planting, materials transport, and harvestingLawn mowers, hand and power tools, chainsaw, trimmers, etc.Standard office equipment: computer, phone, timeclockVans and trucks used to transport students and materialsFeed mill and feed handling equipmentFounded in 1855, Berea College is nationally recognized as the first coeducational and interracial college in the South.
