The primary responsibility for this role involves developing and optimizing system-level software that runs efficiently on embedded Linux environments. Our ideal candidate is passionate about creating robust, high-performance code that operates on wearable processors (e.g. Qualcomm SoCs), ensuring both efficiency and reliability.\r\nRole responsibilities\r\nArchitect, develop, and maintain high quality system-level software for embedded Linux systems\r\nOptimize code to ensure it runs effectively on lower-power hardware\r\nCollaborate with hardware engineers to design and implement software solutions\r\nDebug and troubleshoot issues in the software and the embedded system\r\nDocumentation of projects (architecture, technical specifications, user guides, etc.)\r\nCollaborate with validation teams to develop test strategies and test plans\r\nCollaborate with hardware engineers, application developers, and patients on key system requirements\r\nStay up-to-date with the latest developments in embedded compute technologies\r\nRecommend and implement enhancements to our software and tools to ensure that our archive remains cutting-edge and highly functional\r\nKey qualifications\r\n4+ years of experience building, debugging, and shipping embedded systems using Linux\r\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field\r\nProven experience in developing software for embedded Linux environments\r\nExpert in C and/or C++ programming\r\nUnderstanding of low-level programming concepts and system optimization techniques\r\nFamiliar with SoC level software development\r\nExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail\r\nAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment\r\nComfortable with debugging hardware issues\r\nExperience writing and understanding technical specifications\r\nPreferred qualifications\r\nFamiliarity with Linux OS build systems such as Yocto or Buildroot\r\nExperience with firmware, uboot, UEFI, ACPI, or other bootloaders\r\nPrior experience modifying or contributing to Linux kernel drivers\r\nFamiliarity with Qualcomm or NXP I.MX systems\r\nExperience programming for hardware co-processors such as GPUs or DSPs\r\nPrior work on media-streaming software backends\r\nExperience with network programming and packet loss mitigation\r\nSalary/Pay Range\r\nFor individuals hired to work in California, Science is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on geo-located salary bands.The base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000 – $200,000 + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
