This position entails performing risk assessments, delivering training, and ensuring accurate documentation to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the HSE Manager acts as a strategic partner, working closely with the team to meet safety KPIs and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols by both staff and floor employees.\n\nWhat you will be doing\nDevelop and implement plant-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring clear communication and understanding across all levels of staff. Notify management promptly of any significant safety concerns and collaborate on effective solutions.\nEnsure management conducts thorough accident investigations and prepares accurate reports for serious incidents.\nAssist in managing and maintaining environmental records, ensuring compliance with permits, operating conditions, sampling, and regulatory standards.\nKeep the plant’s incident management system updated with accurate and current information. Maintain safety records, including training logs, evacuation plans, and documentation of accidents and incidents.\nIdentify hazardous conditions and actively contribute to their resolution. Conduct and manage risk assessments as needed.\nPerform regular environmental health and safety inspections. Support department managers and supervisors in implementing corrective actions for safety and environmental concerns.\nDevelop and deliver company-wide training programs in line with occupational health and safety laws, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and internal standards. Co-chair Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and oversee the safe return-to-work program.\n\nWhat will make you successful?\nPreferred Education/Experience:\nBachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.\nMinimum of 5 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management in an industrial environment.\nTravel when required (2-3 times per year).\n\nPreferred Skills/Qualifications:\nCRSP certification is an asset.\nPractical knowledge of occupational safety legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act) as well as environmental regulations and reporting. Familiarity with environmental (EPA) regulations, including record-keeping requirements, is a major asset.\nStrong expertise in managing CNESST cases.\nProficiency in computer software, including MS Office, Excel, Word, and Access.\nExperience with Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) programs, Lean/Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma training/certification, and 5S training/certification is an asset.\n\nEqual opportunities\nAt Hydro, we believe diversity makes us stronger.
